Recently I got an amazing opportunity to do something for a few local heros. It’s not everyday you can whip something super easy and ultra affordable and hand deliver it to some very appreciated Firefighters. My girls and I Made this Ore-Ida Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole. This recipe is really simple and can easily be double to feed lots of amazing people.

My local Firefighters are pretty awesome. They not only let me come into their private space but also bring out the trucks and stand out in the cold for some photo opps. They were so generous and kind. They filled me in some interesting info that I had no clue about. Who knew I was going to be walking into something and wanting to help so much more.

These local heros not only rush to help accidents and potentially saving one or many lives but they live in this firehouse. There are currently about 12 men living there. Most of them volunteer that live there for free. They live there for free in exchange for going to calls and helping out. Free living quarters that is shared in exchange for  possibly saving lives and risking there’s hardly seems like enough of a thank you. Every waking moment they are ready. They also have not missed a call since I beleive 2002/2003. How dedicated is that and just amazing.

Some of the men that live there are guys that are going to school or working at a local job. Can you imagine living there and not in the comfort like your own home and always ready to go if the time calls. These are truly some amazing men. While some of them hardly have the extra income to buy all the things we are lucky to have. They have more in my eyes. When all my fancy electronics fail me, get lost in a horrible accident or to mother nature. These men are here ready to pounce and they are not thinking at all about their stuff but the lives they are helping and saving. The least we can do for local heros is make some good food to grub on when they awake or have a moment to sit down and enjoy.

I can not tell you how nice and kind these guys were to me and family. They welcomed us in with open arms and were very excited to get the word out about their station (Engine 67). They are always looking for volunteers if anyone local to my area is interest, Give them a ring.Check out their personal website HERE. Do you want to give them a shout out or even just a thank you. Even if you are not local. A simple thank you is always worth more then you know. Shout out to them on Facebook. While this story is short, there is so much more to them and lots to share.

The scrumptious Ore-Ida Shredded Hash Browns are really easy to make and can really be adapted to your town. Can be easily found in the freezer section at Walmart. This is the Recipe From Ore-Ida that I went off of. I changed it up a little bit but this is a good snack for those men that can fill their stomachs at least for a little. The recipe from Ore-Ida can be found HERE.

It takes very little to just donate! Say a thank you! Even step up and volunteer yourself. It takes an amazing person to fill these boots.

  1. What a great way to give back by feeding a group of community heroes!

  2. What a wonderful way to give back and introduce the kids to local heroes too. I’m going to have to do this with my kids!

  3. This is my very favorite side dish and someone in my family makes it for every holiday party we have. I have never added green peppers into it but I think that would be a great addition. Great idea to bring it to the dedicated firemen in your community 🙂 #client

  4. My dad was the fire chief in Gainesville, Florida before he retired. Now he’s the second in command in Alachua County Florida for the County FD. Firefighters have a place near and dear to my heart. They really are heroes and they are way, way underpaid. Great organization to take the casserole to! You rock! #client

  5. What an awesome gift to the firefighters! I love that they are still being honored by thoughtful members of the community. Our neighborhood firemen do so much for our community, and of course make sure that it stays safe as well. Thanks for honoring them!
