Looking for a way to use your Instant Pot? Like for some amazing tasting pulled pork? Well Instant Pot is new in my life and I am addicted. I have cooked so much more food and there are a lot of healthy instant pot recipes one can try. I decided to give pulled pork a try. It came amazing. It was so easy too. As my husband was eating it I mentioned I felt like I didn’t do anything. For dinner that night we had a $7 Pork Roast, $1.50 Steamed Bag of corn, $2.50 Steam Bag for Small Baked Potatoes. So that meal was so good and simple.

This meal takes about 10 to prep meat, 90 minutes to cook, 10 minutes to natural release, then 5 more minutes if you want to add BBQ sauce and heat it up. I can tell you this is a heck of a lot faster to do and really while it cooks, I do other stuff. Multitasking mama is in the house!!! (totally raising my hands as I say that too)

Instant Pot Recipe Below You will need.

Pork Roast, Mine was 2.63Lbs

Any spices you’d like. (salt, pepper, chives,Worcestershire)

1/4 cup of Vegetable oil

2 cups of chicken stock or water

BBQ(optional) OR make your own!

Instant Pot

First start by prepping your work station. I cut my roast in half to make it easier to fit and handle. Spice up the roast with whatever you want or marinade and let sit for about 20 minutes if you want.

Instant Pot

Now Get your pressure cooker and turn on the saute button and let it warm up with the vegetable oil inside it. When it’s hot, add your pork. Sear each side of the pork for 3 minutes.

Instant Pot

Now you want to add 2 cups of liquid(Chicken stock or water).

Now close the lid on the pot and hit Meat/Stew button and Add 90 minutes to the time.Make sure your seal is closed. (I forget this sometimes, lol)  Now, sit back and wait for it to count down to 1!

UPDATE 1/6/2017 –I’ve played around with different settings and times. 90 minutes is a great time but sometimes time needs to be added. If your meat comes out and isn’t fall apart. Put it back in for another 20 minutes or to your best estimate. I tried a tenderloin on manual, high pressure, and for 120 minutes. It came out great.

Once it is done, let is naturally release for about 10 minutes.

Put onto a plate and shred. You can eat it now as is or do the BBQ option.

I like to soak my BBQ a little into the meat. So we added the shredded pork into the instant pot, with about 1/2 cup of water. Added in our BBQ sauce. Now You press the manuel button, high pressure, and change the minutes to 5. Now, go prep your other items in your meal and wait for it to be done. Do a quick release and dig in once it’s cooled a little.

Don’t have an instant pot? You need one! It’s the best thing ever since sliced bread!

(I’ve made spaghetti, pork, roast, potatoes, mac & cheese, and tons more stuff in it including cheesecake)

What a awesome recipe! I am sure to try. photos are sooo good.

  9. Do I add 90 minutes to the cook time (making the total 120 minutes) or set it to 90 minutes?

    • Priscilla says

I would try 90 minutes first. If it’s not as tender as you like. Put it back in for another 15-20 minutes. I always do a quick release because I’m impatient

  10. Thanks so much for this! Got my new Instant Pot today and this was the first thing I made. It was the most succulent, most incredible pork I’ve ever made!

  11. In step 7, you mentioned: “I like to soak my BBQ a little into the meat. So we added the shredded pork into the instant pot, with about ½ of water”. Is this 1/2 cup of water or half the pot with water?

  15. I Need A Instant Pot,Would Love To Make This..

  16. My family loves pulled pork, so I’m going to have to try this!

  17. Do I add 90 minutes to the set 20 for 110 or 90 minutes total?

    • Add it on! I have found more time never fails me. It makes my meat softer. I’d rather it be more soft then hard but if you like some hardness to it. only do the 90..

  18. Bethany Webber says

I just got my Instant Pot today and plan on making this tomorrow! What do you mean by make sure your seal is closed…?

    • There is a tiny black knob on the top of the lid! I sometimes forgot to seal the steam knob! Don’t forget that or the pot won’t come to pressure.

  19. I just followed the Dixons but added a little extra chicken stock for coming as I had about a3.47lb piece of meat. It just finished and it is nowhere near shreadable…why is this??? I’m upset bc I wasted meat! Please help!

    • I have to play around with my meat on occasion. Sometimes it’s not shreddable and I put it back in the pot for another 30 minutes. Normally that does the trick. Depending how done it is after your done cooking it, You can play around with the time and do 10 minutes or more.

But if the meat comes out and isn’t tender as you want. Put it back in for some more time. You don’t need a lot of liquid either. So don’t feel the need to over due it!

  20. Im about to make this right now! I love the Instant pot, bought one for my daughter and my brother bought himself one too.

    • Awesome! I really love the instant pot! It’s made so many dinners and After learning more. I got better with times etc.

  21. Interesting that I did something similar a few days ago.
I happen to have a Bradley smoker, so I smoked the pork loin for
    2 hours on 180 degrees…nice and low.
Then transferred to instant pot and put 2 cups marinade liquid
and finished it off steaming. Raised it about 1″ off the bottom so that
it wouldn’t soak…not that cooking in liquid is bad. Just that worked well
with ribs for me. I only pressure cooked the pork loin for 75 minutes though
and it was not quite as tender as your looked. Mine still needed to be more
tender in the middle. I had already intended to bump up the time
as you did. In addition though, I’m going to butterfly it next time to get
more smokey flavor all around and then again steam it complete. I had great luck
using this method for ribs. Nice and smokey but I didn’t have to wait for
six hours for them to be done and fall off the bone tender.
btw; a Bradley smoker is to smokers as instant pot is
to pressure cookers and they seem to both compliment each other well.
It’s so quick and easy to use; just like instant pot.

    • Priscilla says

This sounds so good! If the meat isnt as tender as you want. I normally add it back in for 20 minutes and NPR. I’ve been using 90 minutes on all my roasts. I sear the sides of them then add to instant pot. I LOVE my instant pot! So many recipes to make and so fast!

  22. Shirley Carter says

I am very excited to try to recipes in my Instant Pot. This one was super easy and turned out fantastic! I love that I can saute and pressure cook in the same pot! Thanks for the fast and easy rec ipe!

  23. If I use a pork tenderloin I assume I still sear it first? Also when you add the BBQ sauce and water do you close the seal again for those 5 minutes? Newbie to instant pot here 🙂

    • Priscilla says

haha!! I still sear all my meat because its a preference for me. I did seal again as well with a quick release. I was newbie and now I blindly set the timer! It’s an awesome thing, mistakes will happen! Keep trucking along.

  24. When I was sauteing my pork the oil was popping out of the insta pot like crazy and I wasn’t done yet! I quickly turned it to the keep warm mode. Any suggestions? I’m new to insta pot cooking.

    • Priscilla says

I’d suggest maybe trying less oil? Sometimes I pour a little too much in it. That can cause popping!

  25. Long term pork puller but instant pot newbie – this came out great, thanks!
I had a 2.5 pound (after trimming) pork shoulder which I dry rubbed over night then followed your recipe but set it going for 110 minutes from the outset.
Result? Some of the juiciest, most fall apart pulled pork we’ve ever had, and in a quarter of the time Vs slow cooking!

  26. So do you place the seared meat directly into the liquid – or do I use the trivet stand thing ithe IP came with? Thank you!!

    • I put it directly in the pot. I’ve seen people use the trivet also though.

    • I used the trivet and it still came out great.

The pork is so tender that I don’t trust myself to remove it directly from the base without total destruction, being able to just lift the whole trivet and meat in one go is good for those without a light touch!

  27. Steve Stewart says

Cooked it for 110 minutes and Seared prior. Added Apple juice and teriyaki marinade and a little liquid smoke. I’ve never had a pork loin so tender and perfect. It shredded in minutes and then I added bbq sauce and put it back in with a little water for 5 minutes. It was wonderful. Thanks for the recipe. My family loved it
