Sleep is essential to staying healthy and being able to function at a decent level throughout the day, and waking up feeling more refreshed and ready to take on the world, is something that is definitely working towards achieving.

It can help to compare mattresses to see which one might be good for you in your quest to get a better sleep, and there are some other things you can do as well in order to energize your life and wake up feeling more refreshed.

Turn off the TV

Having a TV or other electronic devices in the bedroom, so that you can watch a movie or check your emails, is not actually a great idea if you are trying to get a good night’s sleep.

The best advice is to not just turn off the TV, but to not have one at all in the bedroom.

There are various studies that suggest watching TV or using any sort of electronic device just before you go to sleep, can have the effect of reducing your levels of melatonin. This is highly relevant, as melatonin is a sleep-inducing hormone that your body produces. Block these off or reduce their effectiveness by watching TV late at night, and you are not giving yourself the best shot at a restful sleep.

Turn down the temperature dial

You may think that it is nice to feel warm and toasty when you head to bed, but the fact of the matter is that your body prefers the temperature dial to be down, if you are going to get a good sleep.

Turn down the temperature dial to just around 65 degrees and you will be more in line with your natural temperature, which drops naturally throughout the evening, help to create a great environment for inducing a comfortable sleep cycle.

Time to get up

You would not be alone if you think that the alarm has gone off way too early and automatically reach out for the snooze button, but that is actually a bad move as far your sleep pattern is concerned.

If you do decide to snooze for another ten minutes or more, you are likely to drift off into a new sleep cycle. Do that, and when you get woken up shortly afterwards by the alarm, and really do have to get up this time, you will probably feel far more groggy and irritable than if you had not hit the snooze button.

Unfortunately, if you want to feel refreshed after your sleep, when it is time to get up, it really is time to get up and not an opportunity to snooze.

The right amount of light

Also pay attention to getting the right amount of light.

This means sleeping in darkness during the night to get a proper restful sleep and then opening the blinds and exposing yourself to the right amount of light when you wake up in the morning.

Light helps to regulate your energy levels, so work on getting the right amount to make the most of your sleep cycle and improve your odds of waking up ready for the day ahead.
