Babysitters can have a hard time figuring out what to do with the kids all day: after you take them to the park, let them watch a few of their favorite shows and feed them, you may be at a loss for what to do next.

There are actually tons of different things that experienced and creative babysitters can do with the kids that will keep them busy all day and their parents happy when they return home. Not only will the kids enjoy their time with you more as a babysitter, the parents will thank you for finding new cool things to do with their children while they’re at work on on a date night. Here are a couple of ideas you can use the next time you’re babysitting and find yourself at a loss for things to do.

Bake Cookies

If it’s okay with their parents, you can get kids involved in cooking, and there’s nothing that gets kids more excited than the prospect of sweet treats. They’ll like them even more because they helped bake them.

Cookie are some of the simplest things you can cook with children. Not only are there tons of varieties, there are even no bake cookies that don’t require an oven, so it’s 100% kid friendly. Baking will help keep the kids entertained while also teaching them about patience, measurements and following directions properly. And the best part is that when it’s all over, they get to enjoy their hard work. And they can even share with neighbors and their parents!

Color

In today’s high-tech world, the simple pleasure of coloring in a coloring book can go overlooked. But, if you look on Google Play, there is even an app that can give kids the experience of coloring without the mess.

The Coloring Book for Me & Mandala app is free to download to any device and features a variety of different things that kids can color, from wildlife and flowers to people and geometric shapes and patterns. There are over 200 colors that are split into different palettes, so they will have no trouble finding the matching colors that they want.

When they’re finished, they can instantly share their creations through email or social media platforms.

Have a Photo Contest

Another way you can use smartphone technology around the house is to hold a photo contest to see who can take the funniest or most creative photo.

As the babysitter, you can establish the rules and even offer prizes to the kid who takes the best photo. If you’re only looking after one child, you can work together as a team to create an awesome picture. This will teach the kids to learn how to use a camera and think about what make a good photograph and it will give them something they can show their parents when they get home.

If you’re babysitting, you should always have a few good ideas up your sleeve. Try these out next time you’re stumped!
