Help Your Community! Donate To Goodwill

Almost every time I log onto Facebook I see that family member, friend or acquaintance is really struggling in this economy. Either they have lost a job or struggled to find employment. And if not someone I know personally, all I have to do is turn on the TV or pull up social media to see the struggle.

It makes me sad to think that so many people are struggling and I wanted to find a way to help – so we are cleaning out the garage and donating everything to the Goodwill! (Here are some Garage Cleaning Tips & Tricks.) Goodwill’s career centers, training programs and staffing operations give people the resources, skills and confidence that changes thousands of lives each year.

INSPIRE- Maybe you can’t donate or share much. Use your voice. Spread the word and inspire others to help out or donate for the cause. Be a voice of encouragement and inspiration. Get creative, start a fundraiser for your local church, and encourage your family and friends to purchase your fundraising products to raise money for your local parish church.

Giving back to my community is so important to me and Goodwill makes it easy. My family and I set a goal and we totally knocked it out of the park. We wanted to provide an hour of on-the-job training and ended up with enough stuff for 6 hours!

  • 15 Shirts
  • 10 Video Games
  • 10 DVDs
  • 10 Plates
  • 1 Bike
  • 5 Jackets

Thanks to the programs and support services made possible by donations of clothes and household items, Goodwill helped place more than 312,000 people in jobs in the United States and Canada in 2015 – that’s one person finding a job every 23 seconds of every business day.

We have perfectly good items that can be loved by someone else, so why not help our community? If you are not sure where your local Goodwill is, you can use the Goodwill Locator App available for Android and iOS devices and at http://www.goodwill.org/ (click “Explore Our Map” on the homepage). Simply input the items you’re donating to calculate the number of hours of career counseling, on-the-job training, résumé preparation, financial planning classes, and other services you’ve helped provide people facing challenges finding employment. When jobs thrive, communities thrive.

What do you have around your house that you don’t use that you can donate?
