7 Great Destination Spots in North America

Oftentimes, when you hear about someone going on vacation, you probably think of some overseas haven for relaxation. While true; America, itself, has plenty of vacation destinations that rival those in other countries. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the most famous ones. Perhaps you’ll take your next much-needed break right here in the States.

  1. Niagara Falls – New York

Strictly speaking, the wondrous Niagara Falls isn’t exclusively in New York – this triumvirate of breathtaking waterfalls actually shares a border with Ontario, Canada and New York. Not only is it a natural landmark of unmatched beauty, but it also provides a considerable amount of hydroelectric power because of its high flow rate – enough, in fact, to power hundreds of thousands of homes.

On your trip to New York, Niagara Falls is a must-see, obviously. Since you’re so close by, you can visit more famous landmarks in the great state. As you near the Big Apple (New York City), things get quite crowded and personal car travel nearly impossible. With the traffic being such a big issue, opt for a bus tour, visit gonytours.com and give yourself the opportunity to see the sights as opposed to watching the GPS showing you where to turn or what the other drivers are doing.

  1. Yellowstone National Park

This supervolcano actually spans the borders of several states: Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, it boasts such legendary sights as the Grand Prismatic Spring, the Old Faithful geyser, Yellowstone Lake and River. You’ll get to see the native wildlife from afar, too – wolves, bears and majestic elk graze the land. It’s a trip worth taking at least once in a lifetime.

  1. The Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Copper State’s claim to fame on the world stage where, in fact, it’s more commonly known as the Grand Canyon State. Visit this awe-inspiring natural formation and see what Nature creates when She puts her mind to it. The Mather Point Overlook provides breathtaking views of the entire expanse from the southern direction. Additionally, Rim Trail provides 13 miles of wondrous scenery for those who don’t mind a low-impact walk.

  1. The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

With such an alliterative name – it just rolls off the tongue – how can it not be one of the most desirable tourist destinations? Located in the progressive tech haven that is San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is a marvel of engineering and artistic vision. Most tourists cite it as a must-see while you’re in the area no matter what else you’ve got planned.

  1. Las Vegas, Nevada

It will look like an island of lights upon arriving from sky or land, and is known as the Sin City for a reason. You don’t have to indulge in all that, though, in order to have a good time. Awash in casinos, world-famous hotels and no shortage of fun to be had at night, the Las Vegas Strip is a part of American culture at this point. It’s also known for gourmet dining, so bring your checkbook when on vacation. It’s not for the laid-back, though…

  1. Orlando, Florida

This trip is definitely one for the family. Orlando is the home of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Magic Kingdom and quite a few other theme parks. What would you expect from Walt Disney World? Within walking distance is SeaWorld, Universal Studios, the magnificent Epcot Center and LegoLand. Every year, the tourist count soars up to nearly 70 million people from all corners of the Earth! The only downside to a vacation in this balmy weather? The children may not want to leave.

  1. Lake Tahoe

Situated between California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe exists in the foreground of the mighty Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Although it’s a freshwater lake, it looks like an ocean from either shore because of its expanse and 500 meter depth.

The expansive lake is divided into two parts: Tahoe South, which is on the California side of the shared border, and North Tahoe on the Nevada side. Once there, you’ll find casinos, an excellent selection of lodgings for your stay, a vibrant nightlife and many different kinds of entertainment. Indeed; Tahoe was voted America’s Best Lake – with stiff competition from Michigan’s brood – by USA Today in 2012. It’s a trip to remember.
