Tips, things to do BEFORE you travel

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

Your holiday checklist – things to do BEFORE you travel

Going on holiday is something we look forward to all year long, and after those long, cold and dark winter nights – we deserve one, right? But before you head abroad or off on your city break, there are a few little tasks that need completing before you pull on that bikini and dig out those sunglasses. Here you’ll find a very helpful reminder of all the things you should be doing before you travel.

Make sure you have insurance

This is a must have before you go anywhere! Having travel insurance is just as important as having our flights and hotel booked. So, don’t take it lightly. If you suffer from pre-existing conditions then don’t worry, you can find a policy that’s right for you if you simply do some research first. Everyone should have insurance in place before they travel – that way, you can thoroughly enjoy your holiday, safe in the knowledge that you’re covered should you fall ill or have an accident.

Find your passport!

Finding your passport is one thing, but have you actually checked that it’s still in date? You wouldn’t be the first person to book their dream holiday, head to the airport and discover they can’t fly due to their passport expiring months before! Be sensible, make sure your passport is in date for the dates you are flying to and from your destination! If it isn’t then don’t delay; there’s usually a backlog at the passport office. Don’t leave it to the last minute.

Make sure your home is secure

Telling everyone that you’re going away for two weeks is a great feeling, but inadvertently telling the world that your house will be empty for all that time, isn’t a great move. Make sure your you don’t leave any doors unlocked while you’re away, ensure that every door and window locks correctly, including the cat flap! Make sure all your valuables are hidden away, and if you get on with your neighbours give them a key so they can check the property every couple of days.

Get your pet care sorted

If you’re leaving your furry friend behind, then make sure they can have a bit of a holiday too! Book them into a local kennel/cattery with a good reputation well in advance, or if a friend or relative can look after them, even better!

 Pre-book your car hire

This is a much cheaper alternative then organising something after your land, which is usually when prices rocket. And who wants to wait in line for hours and hours after getting off a busy flight? Be smart and book in advance!

Get your travel money

Again, it pays to have everything ready well in advance. Leaving your travel money to the last moment won’t guarantee you the best value. If you’re taking currency abroad then check out the best rates online – don’t just head to the Post Office or nearest currency exchange. If you give yourself enough time, you can shop around.
