Buckle Up For Safety With A Graco My Ride Safety Surround

In honor of National Child Passenger Safety Month, Graco launched a “Buckle Up for Safety” pledge on Facebook where you and your friends, families and followers can pledge your commitment to child passenger safety. For every pledge they will donate $1 to Safe Kids Worldwide until they reach their goal of 10,000 pledges!

Graco offers many different kinds of car seats. All of them have different pros and cons about them. The one thing we can count on is for them to be safe.

Keep reading for more info on a Graco My Ride Safety Surround and what I like and hate about it!

My very first car seat was a Graco  for my daughter born in 2008. I remember I had to have a my ride because after searching car seats. This was the one to have and completely safe for my itty bitty baby. It also rear faced for a long time. I got the Graco My Ride with safety surround recently for my new baby boy 5 years later.  I have to say, only improvement!  I love the new safety surround. He was a preemie and a little on the tinier side. He fits just perfect in the seat. The side safety surround is a great little arm rest for him. His head can doze to the left or right and still look like he is comfortable.

I know as a new mom, I am constantly checking to see if he is breathing. It makes it worst for me since he was in the NICU when he was born for breathing issues. Thank gosh he got well quickly and came home in a week. The NICU actually does a car seat check before the babies can go home. He had to sit in a car seat properly buckled in for 90 minutes without any alarms going off. I hate bucket car seats. Don’t ask, I just hate them! I happen to have that car seat since it was an early delivery, we didn’t have much things picked out or quite prepared.  Well back to the breathing, in a bucket seat I feel he can’t breathe or his chin is to far to his chest. I know its not but its a mind thing with me. While I am driving and stop at red lights, I am constantly checking his little chest. Well with the My Ride Safety Surround, I don’t worry so much. He looks comfy in it and layed back just enough that he has room to move his head. I also love the safety surround next to his head because when I am turning, I know his head isn’t getting flung to the opposite side.

The only thing I do not like about the Graco My Ride is the latch clips! I absolutely hate digging my hands in the cars seats to latch them. The seats are big already and to get behind them to also unlatch when they are super tight is a pain in the rear. So I hate that they don’t have an easy click button system. I also wish they were a little bit smaller. That’s a My Ride thou. It is a bigger car seat but I feel as if my kids will not have a scratch on them if an accident would happen. If I had a van with captain seats, it would be perfect for that! A small Mazda 6, not so much, a tight squeeze but well worth the efforts when you see a sleeping baby in the back.

  1. I like the head rest parts for a newborn and up. I have a large suv so getting to the belts isn’t much of an issue for me. But I can see where you had some issues. You have a beautiful little boy!
