Do you need some helpful tips for moving this Holiday Season

5 Tips for Moving During the Holidays

Written by Alyssa Howard, Moveboxer.com

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, or so they say. But if you’re moving during the holidays, it may not seem like the most joyful season of your life. Even though it will be stressful inevitably, though, you can cut down on some of the chaos by following these simple tips to still enjoy the festivities in the midst of your move.

1. Plan ahead

When you’re undertaking a move during the most wonderful time of the year, the most important tip for you to keep in mind is that you’ll need to plan ahead. Don’t wait to start your holiday shopping or begin packing up the house, because soon you’ll be adrift in a sea of festive parties while the moving truck is already parked outside. To get a head start, keep a running to-do list of things that need to get done.

2. Stay organized

This is also incredibly vital to your holiday and moving success. I recommend using a program like Evernote that allows you to have your virtual “notebook” with you at all times. The less you have to remember, the more room you have in your noggin for new information about both the holidays and the move.

3. Ask for help when needed

Involve your family in the moving chaos. Ask your children to organize their own rooms to be packed. This is great for two reasons: First, it cuts down on some of the work that you would’ve otherwise done alone, and second, it allows them to be part of the moving process without completely overwhelming them.

4. Shop online

Between people coming to do inspections of the house and staying home with the kids, it may not be possible for you to get out and go to the mall for your traditional holiday gift shopping sprees, but not to worry. Online shopping is a great way to stay ahead of the present game while still getting done what you need to do for the move. Additionally, some stores do virtual Black Friday specials, which can help you save money and time simultaneously.

5. Take some “me” time

Lastly, in order to retain some of your sanity, you’re going to need to allow yourself time to enjoy the festivities yourself or do the things you just normally do for yourself. Don’t give up on those triweekly gym visits just because things are more overwhelming than usual; your own health and well-being are important as ever.
