7 Great Gift Ideas for Him
A new tie? Another tool for the toolbox? Nah, you can do better than that. While there are some tried-and-true staple gifts for men, this holiday, you can think a little outside the box and give him something he will love. From guitar lessons to bracelets for men, here are seven great ideas for the guy in your life.
1. Jewelry
More and more men wear jewelry other than their wedding rings. Necklaces, watches and bracelets are popping up on men who wear a number of styles. If your special someone likes a classic look, choose a new tie clip or cufflinks. For a trendy dude, check out these Chan Luu leather bracelets. And if your man likes a little bling, pick out a platinum necklace or choose among gold bracelets for men.
2. Experience
A present doesn’t always have to fit in a box. Think about the person’s hobbies and get them a certificate to cover the cost. Book a cabin for a fishing excursion or reserve a hotel room on the Vegas strip. Find a four-wheeling adventure or – eek! – look into skydiving. Is your man a little more low-key? Try taking him to his favorite dinner restaurant – and he can order anything off the menu. Put the certificates in a basket with items that correspond to the activity, like a bottle of wine or a scuba mask.
3. Lessons
You know how he’s always saying he wishes he could play guitar? Or how he idolizes people who can surf? Buying a man lessons for a current hobby – or a hobby he wishes he had – is a big hit. If you don’t live near the beach, make a vacation out of surf lessons. Why not? It’s a present you can enjoy, too.
4. Technology
Have a gadget guy? There is always something out there: a tablet, a new phone, a music player, etc. If you get him a new device, pre-load it with apps or songs you know he loves as an easy way to personalize an otherwise impersonal gift. Technology doesn’t have to include the Internet, though. A new electric razor or massager may be the perfect fit.
5. Clothing
No, not the usual button-down shirt or sweater. Get him something he would never get himself: a new vest, cashmere gloves or a fashionable winter coat. Get him a new, comfortable bathrobe with his initials embroidered on it. If you simply must give him a tie, look for a tie that actually has built-in microfibers so it can double as a wipe for a phone or laptop (they actually exist!).
6. Hygiene
Some men simply do not put their up-keep first. It isn’t always a bad thing, because it leaves some room for you to swoop in with a basket of products to keep him looking (and smelling) his
best. Look for manly lip balm, foot cream and a good shower scrub, for starters. Throw in a new nail trimmer or razor if he needs those as well.
7. Reading
Lastly, a good book or magazine subscription is always a win – especially if you can carve out the time when he gets to read it. Wrap up the present with a guarantee to give him 30 minutes on a Saturday morning or before bed so he can enjoy some alone time with a good read.
