I myself come from a family that support our troops to no end and have always celebrated them in a big way. I grew up knowing and respecting anyone that has put in any amount of time for our country. I recently had a Memorial Day get together with some friends and family. It was to celebrate my grandfather who has fought for our country and passed away a few years back due to health issues and some problems he got form serving in the past wars. My great grand father who also served and lived a long life but passed away when I was in my early teens. I loved both of them but I especially remember my grandfather always being there for me and supporting whatever my kids habits were. he was president of the local VFW, so you can imagine how often we were there. Every holiday and just because. He was loved and still loved. We have a lot of ways to remember him and continue to thank him by donating and supporting any cause for all our veterans.
We had a cook out on a beautiful day. We chatted about good times and old times. We talked about how much we missed them and how all our friends that are currently in the army. Just how brave they are to be away from there newborns, pregnant wives, new wives, family, friends and to do so without expecting anything in return. We had a great day outside and it makes you be thankful for being able to do whatever we want outside our houses, stay out past dark, get int he car and drive to the store. It also makes me thankful for my family. Laid back days like these were everything is perfect and falls into place. You sit back and look at everything you have. Your family is enjoying themselves, kids, playing, good food. You have to think of everything our veterans went through so we could enjoy this moment. Think of how it would of been other wise. Every little thing counts.
After our great day and cook out. We enjoyed some dessert. The dessert was inspired by our Red white and blue! Recipe is below for Cheesecake fruit salad. While we enjoyed dessert we also enjoyed a nice cup of coffee from my coffee making station. With my Kuerig we can all enjoy our coffee just how we want it. With the Coffee-Mate creamer by Nestle we can all enjoy some great flavors to make our taste buds relax. It may not seem like a lot to share a cup of coffee but it is. Coffee to me is relaxing, taking a moment to just sit down and relax. Smell the aroma and enjoy myself. I imagine thats how anyone feels that loves coffee. It also brings back some good memories for growing up. Smelling the aroma in the morning. Tasting it the first time. Sharing a cup of coffee with someone that does not have a lot on a cold day. My grandfather it was a memory of friends. He often brought up a memory of him making coffee with his friends when he was in the army. he talked about watching the sun come up and thinking about his family. While that moment he could just forget about all the horrible conditions around him and remember all the good reasons he was doing it. he said that kept him sane. A moment of laughs with friends or just smiles passed around during a quiet morning.
