Here in the US we have several different ways people celebrate this time of year. They do with trees, gifts, giving back, church, food, and much more. Have you ever wondered what it is like to celebrate Christmas to different religions or communities around the globe? My family and I celebrate with a Christmas tree all decorate with ornaments from when I was little. We put out reindeer food with sparkles and wait for Santa Claus to come. We also celebrate god and everything the Holiday is about for our beliefs.

My family and I love this time of year. It’s so warm and welcoming and so many traditions to pass down to our kids and also to start some of our own. We have taken a few ideas from other countries such as hiding the pickle in your tree. That started in Germany fro what I found out on google! This isn’t really a tradition and rather new. It is still fun to do though. The kid that find the pickle gets a little extra special treat. In reality that will entail tears on Christmas day so we just save one for each of them.

We also create a fun reindeer mix of oatmeal, glitter, and nuts for the reindeer to snack on while Santa comes and hides presents under the tree. We also always bake cookies galore and hand those out to family and friends. the kids love to decorate them and send them to their teachers too.

Another tradition we picked up thats a great fit for our family is pajamas. The kids each get a new pair of PJs to wear to bed on Christmas Eve. This is also wrapped up in a box with some hot chocolate and a Christmas themed movie. They love it.

We go to church, hang out with family, enjoy some good cooking and be thankful for everything we have. This year since my kids are older I have also started to think about sharing. My kids don’t realize how some kids have it. Some families that don’t have presents or money to offer their kids. Some families have trouble even offering them a meal. I decided we need to show the kids and have the realize how thankful they should be and that they should help others.

We got to the store and find a two toys they want. They then have to give one of those toys to a child in need or organization. We also do one small shopping trip and donate that to the local firefighters. They work countless hours non stop, ready to go at any moment. Heros do not have a day off. So we give to them who give so much. This has really helped to show the girls how nice it is to give an help people. The best feeling in the world and priceless. Worth more in good memories then anything.

While we have some tradition holiday traditions, we also have some new ones that are unique to our family. I am sure every family has an amazing time. If you are looking to help out or donate some toys this Holiday Stop by your local Walmart where they will have a ToyLand events during December. We will be going to ours and purchasing a toy to donate to our local Toys For Tots. We will also purchase one more for my daughter for Christmas after she has given the one she thought was hers away.

  5. I love that you have your children pick out toys that they would want and then have them give 1 of them away. It teaches them to be kind to others, even when they really want something. Such a great lesson.
