There is a movie coming out January 15th that my daughter just can’t stop talking about. The movie is called Norm of the North. It is all about a talkative polar bear that has a big heart! He is set to go on an adventure to New York City so that he can try to keep his home from being taken over by developers. Norm takes on all of this responsibility to try and save his home that he cares so much about.

Norm really believes that there is no room in the Arctic for people that do not belong there. When a developer decides that he is going to come to the Arctic and start building luxury condos, Norm decides that he needs to take action and do something about it. So he goes right to the source of where the intrusion is coming from. That would be New York City!
He doesn’t go about trying to save the Arctic all on his own though. His team that accompanies him is a ragtag team that looks like a funny time. I think the idea of an all animal team trying to save the Arctic appeals to my daughter. The team kind of reminds her of other animated films where the animals have to work together to solve a problem. There is always some sort of comedy to keep the films like these light hearted, but there is always an underlying lesson.
I love the fact that this movie is going right along with our core values of standing up for things that you believe in. Even though some of these experiences for children may be challenging, it is good character building for them to help with what causes they believe in. Every day has something new about it for children, whether it be big or small. I always teach my kids to do things to the best of their ability even if the first time they try something it is not perfect or they don’t succeed.
Taking chances and standing up for things that you believe in are some of life’s best lessons. Norm of the North seems to me to be a movie aimed at teaching just that in a lighthearted way. I can not wait to go and see this movie with my daughter. I highly recommend that you go check it out for yourself. New challenges are part of life and kids watching Norm take on his challenges will cause them to be inspired to do the same in their own lives. When a movie is inspirational and funny all at once, it is a win in my book!
