On the Road Again: The Top Driving Apps for Your Journey
It is not so easy to get lost when taking a road trip or other journey these days, as there are plenty of navigation systems available to help you find your way, and plenty of useful apps to keep you safer and informed too.
A vehicle like the Dodge Dart for example, will come fully-loaded with a fair amount of gadgets and systems already installed, but which apps should you add, so that you can enjoy a better driving experience?
Fill up with gas without emptying your wallet
The price of gas can vary widely between different stations, and there is nothing more annoying than to fill up at one venue, only to drive past a nearby rival station, which is offering gas at a lower price.
If you download an app like GasBuddy for example, you can quickly see the prices of the ten closest gas stations, which means that you can drive past the most expensive one and take advantage of a lower price nearby, saving you plenty of money when you add up what you spend each year.
The GasBuddy app claims to have about 110,000 gas stations incorporated into its database and more are being added on a regular basis.
Keeping your eyes on the road
Distracted driving offenses are a big issue and a major cause of accidents on our roads, which is why an app that lets you keep track of your text messages and Facebook updates, could stop you running into trouble with the law or being involved in a crash.
DriveSafe.ly allows you to hear the content of any incoming text messages or even emails, as well as receiving Twitter updates and content from other social media sources, without taking the dangerous step of removing your hands from the wheel or taking your eyes off the road.
Set up the app and you won’t need to press any buttons on your smartphone to stay in touch, as the content is relayed to you by a voice of your choosing.
Defend yourself with a dashcam
There are a number of dashcams available on the market, but you could also get an app that turns your iPhone into a ready-made dashcam, that could provide useful evidence in the event of an accident.
Carcorder uses a dashboard mount to capture any events going on in front of your vehicle and as well as gathering what could be useful footage, it could provide you with some footage that you might want to share with others, for just a small download fee.
Collision warning
It might be that if you buy a new model with a good spec, a forward collision warning system might already be incorporated into the vehicle.
If you don’t have that option pre-fitted, you might want to consider an app like iOnRoad, which won’t offer such a comprehensive safety system as a pre-fitted one that activates the brakes in an emergency, but it will warn you when you are getting too close to the vehicle in front.
These are just some of the useful apps available that could keep you safer and your eyes on the road, but of course, do take care and only use your smartphone when it is safe to do so.
