5 Practical Tips When Remodelling Your Bathroom

Remodelling a bathroom takes a lot of time and money. You don’t want to spend all that hard work with tacky results; which is why you need to plan carefully and get the best renovators in town. Here’s also a list of some general tips to help you with your bathroom remodelling. Take note that these pointers focus more on functional aspects instead of the aesthetics of a bathroom.

1. Plan your budget, needs, and design ahead

One of the most common mistakes people do when renovating their bathroom is that they don’t plan what they want and need ahead of time. Some of these homeowners end up with a bathroom design they don’t like or just have an awful output. Planning is a crucial part of the renovation since it highlights how much money you need and the ideal schedule on when the project will be finished. Prematurely organising your ideas gives you ample time to choose over a variety of bathroom aesthetics. Budget planning also provides insight on how much you can realistically spend for the renovation.

2. Take note of plumbing repairs

While a majority of homeowners generally focus on the aesthetic design — you shouldn’t forget the most important part of the bathroom which is the plumbing system. No matter how well-designed or majestic the bathroom is; it will all be wasted if the bathroom is riddled with problems like leaky toilet, dripping taps, floor flooding, and many more.

It would be best if you’re able to raise plumbing issues early on to both contractors and your local plumber. They can take note of your concerns and come up with solutions that can coincide with your bathroom remodelling.

3. Don’t forget proper ventilation

Your bathroom shouldn’t be encased with no windows and ventilation. Without air flowing throughout the room; it will encourage mould growth. Moulds are prevalent in bathrooms that

have poor ventilation which poses many problems. This fungus doesn’t only damage the floor and tiles — it can also be harmful to your health if you’re exposed to the moulds’ spores for a long period of time.

Allow natural light to enter your bathroom as much as possible. If your bathroom doesn’t get natural light due to its location then you should consider installing sun tunnels if you really want to have natural lighting.

Exhaust fans can also help remove moisture in the bathroom so be sure to have one installed during the renovation. There are exhaust fans that don’t produce too much noise when turned on so try to find these types of units.

4. Match the lighting with the theme

It’s odd to have classic lighting with a modern style bathroom. Always make sure that lighting can blend with the overall design. Chandeliers and traditional vanity lights are great choices if your bathroom is going for that vintage or classic look. LED lights with contemporary vanity lights are a good match for modern and minimalist bathrooms.

5. Regrouting tiles

The purpose of grout is to absorb grime, dirt, and mildew in the floor. However, it chips away due to aging and continued exposure to water. If the grout becomes too weak then water can easily seep through the tiles and weaken its structure. Have the contractor inspect the grout lines if there is anything wrong with it.
