Want a Healthier Lifestyle? Live in Colorado
They say that ‘health is wealth’ and if this is true, then Colorado will probably be among the country’s richest state. Living a healthy life should be a priority for everyone and the past few years, there has been a lot of trends that promote a healthier lifestyle.
Admittedly, how healthy your lifestyle is may be strongly affected by things such as your job, the accessibility of healthy foods, and the place where you live. If you are looking for a place that will be conducive to a healthy lifestyle, then moving to Colorado is the answer. Not quite convinced? Here are some things you should know:
- Colorado is tenth healthiest state. According to the 2016 America’s Health Rankings, Colorado is the tenth healthiest state out of the total of 50 states. The evaluation of health in this report does not just refer to the least incidence of diseases and illnesses, more accurately, it refers to the complete physical, mental, and social well-being.
- Colorado has the lowest rate of obesity. The obesity rate in Colorado is 20.2%, the lowest among all the 50 states. It is not surprising that Colorado also has the lowest rate of diabetes at 6.8% and lowest number of cardiovascular disease-related deaths.
- Colorado has an annual decrease in obesity prevalence. Aside from having the lowest obesity rate, obesity rate is decreasing in Colorado. Out of 50 states, only Michigan and Colorado experienced a negative average annual rate of change in obesity prevalence. This means that while obesity is becoming more prevalent in the other states, it is becoming less prevalent in just two states and one of these is Colorado.
- Colorado has the lowest rate of physical inactivity among adults. Only 17.9% of adults in Colorado report doing no physical activity or exercise in the past 30 days. Living in Denver alone gives you access to over 200 parks where you can walk, run, jog, bike, and hike.
