One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the shopping! I love getting the kids their Christmas presents, but I also love shipping for myself! Whether it’s party dresses, home décor, or warm clothes for bundling up in the cold, there’s always plenty on my own personal shopping list. That’s why I love shopping at my local Goodwill® store this time of year. I know that I can not only find an excellent bargain, I support a good cause. Did you know that 87 cents on the dollar of every purchase from a Goodwill goes towards local job training opportunities? You can find your nearest Goodwill store at http://www.goodwill.org/
Supporting my local community is so important. I buy my milk from a local farm, my butter from an Amish lady and always stop at roadside farmers markets. So it only makes sense that I also shop at Goodwill.
Collectively, over 313,000 people in the United States and Canada connected with jobs or earned employment using Goodwill organizations’ career services programs this past year. And more than that – tens of millions access the Goodwill education, training, and online learning services that Goodwill offers to strengthen their job training skills. As a non-profit, they are dedicated to helping create jobs and providing on-the-job training for many who would find employment opportunities scarce without Goodwill’s help.
This year I found a ton of stuff at my local Goodwill. I got a party dress for our family Christmas, a huge roaster for our Turkey and the cutest mugs for hot cocoa. When I’m able to find a steal and save money, check off my holiday shopping list, and know I’m supporting a good cause, it’s a total win/win/win situation.
