How to Keep Your Children Entertained While on the Road
Packed bags, child seats, and a car that’s ready to go. That can only mean one thing: a road trip. And not just a road trip, a road trip with your family.
That’s right, just you, your kids, and the open road and everything that comes with it. From your driveway to the destination, it all seems like smooth sailing. However, about an hour into your 4-hour drive, your kids start complaining and whining. What do you do?
Keep Kids Entertained
Kids tend to get restless when you tell them to sit still and wait for the next four hours. The best way to curb the problem is to offer a solution for them to forget that they are in a car and are on their way to a new place. Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can do just that.
Electronic Entertainment
An easy way to keep your kids settled down during your drive is to give them something to distract them. Store their favorite movies and TV shows onto a tablet and have them watch it in the backseat. It’s a guaranteed way to keep them busy for at least an hour or two. Other things you can load onto the tablet can include some fun children’s games or even some of their favorite nursery rhymes for them to watch and listen to.
Creative Activities
It’s understandable for some parents to not be a fan of electronic entertainment for their children, especially for extended periods. An alternative way to entertain your kids is to give them something to tinker with while on the road. For kids with a developing creative side, you can provide them with a whiteboard, and some dry erase pens to play with. They can draw pictures, play simple games like tic tac toe, or hangman. It’s an excellent way for them to keep their brains sharp even while on vacation.
Toys
Nothing beats toys when it comes to distracting your kids during a long drive. What you can do is take a shoe box, allow your children to decorate it any way they want, and let them fill it up with small toys of their choice. And during the ride, you can let them play with their toys, and they can use the box as a play surface for them to do their thing.
Another option is to pack some crafty toys like an Etch A Sketch and let them take turns creating random pictures and more. Letting your children’s imagination run wild as that allows.
Car Games
Car rides are best enjoyed with the entire family. You can play games like I Spy. In I Spy, the driver can give out what he spies and let everyone else on board figure out what he sees. Other games to play onboard include Road Trip Bingo where you give the kids a card to mark off anything you think you might see on the road. The winner can get an extra treat when you reach your destination.
When your children grow up, they will look back on the road trips they took with their family, and one of the things they will remember and miss most are the times you spent together on the road and how much fun they had with everyone. So, help them create cherished memories during your vacations.
There is no better feeling in the world than driving a new family car across the country with everyone you care about. Luckily, finding car finance to help you purchase that dream car a lot easier today. So, don’t hesitate to find the one suited for you and your family.
