Things To Know When Ordering In A Restaurant

Ordering from a restaurant might seem like a pretty easy task, but there are some mistakes that people do make. Ensuring you get the best possible experience at a restaurant means ordering correctly and following certain etiquette. Carry on reading to discover just some of the foolproof tips that you should practice when ordering at a restaurant.

5 things to know when ordering in a restaurant:

  1. Go big or go home

If you are at a restaurant, particularly an upper class one, you should be making the most of the entire experience. This means you should not just go for a main course, include a starter, dessert and of course a exquisite beverage to wash it all down with. Not only will this be more enjoyable, it will also give you a better idea of the quality of the restaurant and all the options available. It’s much better to save up for an amazing experience, rather than scrimping on an OK one.

  1. Ask questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the dishes on the menu, it will not make you look stupid. The job of the waiter/waitress is to know about the food and understand what they are going to be serving you. Some food on the menu might be worded really strangely, so getting confirmation on ingredients.etc. is important. Bob Evans is a great restaurant chain with amazing food that is worth checking out.

  1. Be polite to staff

Even if you are at the most expensive restaurant in the world, remember that you are no better than anyone else. Be polite to waiting staff, even if they make a mistake in some way. You are equal to those who are serving you, plus it’s always a good idea to show respect to anyone who is handling your food.

  1. Dress for the occasion

A nice restaurant will usually have a dress code but this will obviously vary depending on the restaurant. As a man, you can’t go wrong with a suit and tie, a beautiful and sophisticated dress is ideal as a woman eating out. If you have never tried this particular restaurant before and you don’t know the dress code, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

  1. Always give a tip

You should always tip at a restaurant, it shows gratitude to the chef and your servers. 20% is a given but at a nicer restaurant, tipping a little more is recommended. This obviously does depend on the kind of service you have received so you need to consider all options. If somebody goes the extra mile to serve you as a customer, show your gratitude with a nice fat tip.

Understanding the basics of ordering at a restaurant is going to make you have an even better time. These are just some of the tips that you should keep in mind that you are next at a restaurant. Put the mentioned steps into action and you should soon notice a difference in terms of your experiences at some of the best restaurants in the country.
