7 of the Best Alcohol Free Wine Options on the Market 

Alcohol abuse creates major health and economic burdens for the individual, the family and society at large so many people are choosing to live alcohol-free lifestyles. There is no reason why these people should forgo the enjoyment of a good de-alcoholized red or white wine.  

Alcohol-free wine is popular with those trying to shed some weight, as it contains just one-third of the sugar of the alcoholic version. The anti-oxidants contained in wine are not removed with the alcohol, so alcohol-free wine is good for your health and according to research actively reduces blood pressure. We’ve gone in pursuit of some of the best alcohol free wine that the globe has to offer.  

All wines start off containing alcohol, and some that are labelled non-alcoholic may still contain small amounts of alcohol. Those containing no alcohol are marked alcohol free.  To make alcohol free wine normal wine is put through a final production process to remove the alcohol.  

Making alcohol free wine  

Alcohol is removed from wine in one of three processes 

  • Reverse osmosis – a filter is used to separate the alcohol 
  • Steam vacuum – the alcohol is distilled off 
  • Centrifugal force – the wine is repeatedly passed under high pressure through a fine filter  

These are all cold processes as heat will destroy the flavours and the best alcohol free wines are:  

Ariel Cabernet Sauvignon 

Hailing from Paso Robles, California, this Cabernet has been grown and produced on a sustainable vineyard. It has been fermented and then aged in oak. The alcohol has been removed by cold filtration. Ariel is the only de-alcoholized wine to have won a Gold medal, competing against wines that contain alcohol. It contains hints of berries, pepper and chocolate. 

Pierre Chavin Zéro Blanc 

For the white wine lover, this French white from the Languedoc-Roussillon region boasts fragrances of lychees, peaches and flowers. It is from the recently added Zero line produced at the Pierre Chavin vineyard. The line contains both still and sparkling wines. They are halal certified 

Chateau de Fleur Sparkling Wine 

When its time to celebrate this sparkling wine is will put you in the mood. It’s sweet and grapy and full of bubbles. Refreshing and crisp, it is made in the vineyards of California. 

Princess Alternativa 0.0 still Halal 

This Italian wine has elaborate aromas of ripe fruit making this deep red wine one of the favorites for an evening meal. It is pasteurised and contains no preservatives.

Most zero-alcohol wines are more expensive than the alcoholic version, but that is to be expected since there is another process involved in removing the alcohol.
