Make This the Summer You Get in Shape
If you have spent the winter and colder months struggling to get active and commit to your fitness routine, it’s time to embrace the warmer weather, go out in the sunshine, and book in for your personal training package with HouseFit Fitness Studio. There are many reasons summer is the best time to get in shape:
- The warmer, longer days make it much more enjoyable to exercise outside.
- It is easier to get motivated for early morning training sessions when you get to witness beautiful sunrises.
- You can work on your tan when you head outside for a run, and you can see the results as you sport your summer shorts and tees.
Along with being more motivated and committing to a new training routine, don’t forget to also focus on these components of a healthy lifestyle to ensure you reach your goals, feel fit, and are summer ready!
Address Your Nutrition
Improving your fitness is only half of the equation when it comes to getting in shape. The other half is what happens in the kitchen! Do an overhaul of your diet, zeroing in bad habits you have adopted, such as too much alcohol, eating out too often, or eating foods high in sugar. Limit your intake of processed foods, drink more water, and incorporate leafy greens into your daily routine. Also, don’t forget to eat adequate healthy fats and fibre, and mix it up by opting for plant-based proteins instead of meat two to three times per week.
Remember to Rest
While you may be excited to finally be back to the gym or back to your running routine, don’t get too excited and neglect time for rest and recovery. Your body needs time to repair muscle that you have broken down, in an effort to help you build up more, as well as to allow proper recovery of small micro-tears. Furthermore, exercise is a physical stress to the body, and prolonged stress without adequate recovery time can be cumulative, reducing functioning of the body, inhibiting proper immune function, and leading to overall fatigue and poor performance. Without proper rest, you’ll soon end up injured, or with overtraining syndrome and you won’t be able to carry on at all.
Find Accountability
Whether it’s your trainer, a workout partner, or having a running race on the calendar, it is important to not neglect the need for accountability in your new routine. In the early stages, when your motivation is high and you are excited to be making changes and getting on track, it may be easy to get out the door every morning, wake up early, or fit in a training session after work. But once the novelty wears off, you will need other methods of keeping yourself accountable and keeping your motivation high. Find someone who you can call up to be your workout partner on weeks when you are in a bit of a slump, or hire a trainer, booking sessions ahead of time to make sure you show up.
From improved physique to better nutrition, pretty soon you’ll have all the pieces in place to reach your health and fitness goals and make this your fittest summer yet. What are you waiting for? Start today!
