Scrap Car Removal – A How To:

Having a working vehicle is a vital part of many peoples lives. Driving is one of the most common modes of transportation, having a higher statistical rate of use than airplanes, trains, or boats. Vehicles are used to travel to work, to social activities, grocery shopping, family outings, and much more. Like all mechanical things, vehicles wear out, break, and generally need maintenance and repairs. Unfortunately, there comes a point when a vehicle is better off scrapped.

This can happen for a myriad of reasons including age, breaking beyond its worth to fix, and a wreck. Whatever the reason, there are times when you need to get rid of a vehicle and straight up selling it is not an option. When this occurs, the best thing to do is scrap the car. There are a few ways to do this, but the most common is to sell the vehicle to a scrap yard. If you have never worked with a scrap yard before, it may seem complicated or even difficult. This is not the case. The process itself is incredibly simple, quick, and easy. There are a few steps to take before completing the transaction. What you will find here is all of the basic details that you will need to successfully scrap your vehicle.

The first step is to find a scrap yard or similar place that wants to buy your car for the purpose of scrapping it. Most junkyards will take a scrapped vehicle, some individuals purchase vehicles for the purpose of scraping out the parts, and there are entire businesses dedicated to scrapping vehicles and other metal pieces. The best way to find all of the scrap related businesses in your area is to search online. To do this you will need to stick to simple, but specific search phrases. To get wider results, only use terms for the type of business that you are looking for, in this case, scrap yards. Use terms like “local scrap yards” or “where to scrap my car”. Search terms should never be longer than five, maybe six words.

The longer the search phrases, the narrower your results will be. Perhaps to the point of not showing any results at all. If you are looking for more specific results, there is a simple way to go about it. Instead of using more words, change the ones you are already using. Instead of words and phrases like “local” or “near me”, use the name of your city or town. If you are willing to travel a few miles, use the name of your county. A good example of a search for someone living in Langley and looking for a company to pick up and scrap a vehicle is “Langley Recycle Your Auto“.

Once you have found someone to scrap your vehicle, you will need to contact them and see what they would be willing to pay. So often, the need to get rid of the vehicle quickly makes a person skip some of the most vital steps. If you have more than one option, you need to take the time to determine which is the best choice. The first one you find is not necessarily the best. You need to find the company or individual that will give you the best price as well as the one with the best reputation. It is incredibly important to ensure that if you are selling to a company, that they have all of the required certifications and credentials. Even when speed is of the essence, take that extra few minutes to ask a few questions and make sure you are making the best decision for you and your specific situation.

After finding a person or company to buy your scrapped car, you will need to begin making preparations for the transactions. If the condition of the vehicle and the features are irrelevant, do not hesitate to remove them to make extra money. For example, if the vehicle has almost new expensive tires, consider replacing them with very cheap tires and selling the expensive one separately. If you have the knowledge to safely do so, you may want to consider removing GPS hardware and radio hardware to sell separately. The same goes for any extras you may have added to the interior of the vehicle. If any of these details were listed when making the deal, you should not alter them as the vehicle should be in the exact condition you initially described. As long as these things were not part of the agreement, do not hesitate to get as much out of the vehicle as possible.

If the vehicle is still usable, use up any gas that may still be in it before the transaction takes place. Gasoline is expensive and it will feel like losing money if the vehicle is full of it when you sell it. Even if you just take a meandering ride through the city or countryside, use as much of the gasoline in the tank as you safely can.

Next, ensure that you have the title and all necessary documentation in order before the transaction takes place. This way you will not be scrambling at the last minute to make sure everything is in order. Most people keep their important documents locked away in a safe or lockbox so it will take some time to retrieve the appropriate documents.

Finally, make sure that you remove your license plate and all personal items before having the vehicle picked up. Depending on the situation, the vehicle may be at your home, at a garage, at any point along a roadway, or even in a parking lot or garage. It may not be easy to access the vehicle before it is picked up by the scrapping professional. However, it is incredibly important to make every effort to clear it out of all personal items and remove the license plate. Most DMVs require the license plate to be returned to them before they will cancel your registration for the vehicle. A person’s car becomes much like a second home and as such is generally littered with various items such as charging cords, CD’s, jackets, forgotten mail, bills, and change. You will not want these items to go with the car to the scrap yard as then you will not be able to retrieve them.
