Fashion Tips for the Office Christmas Party

Office parties are always tricky, and the annual Christmas party is perhaps the trickiest of them all. You want to look your best and appear beautiful for the occasion, but you still have to maintain a professional aura to a certain degree. It is actually easy to go too far with the outfit you choose, but that is exactly what you want to avoid when attending the office Christmas party.

Worry not, because you can still look gorgeous for the party without abandoning your professional image. While the Christmas party is a work-related occasion, there are fashion pieces and accessories you can wear to really stand out. Here are the best fashion tips to use for the office Christmas party.

Add a Dash of Color

In most situations, the office Christmas party is at the end of a normal day at the office. Many companies choose to schedule their office parties on the last workday before the Christmas holiday. This means you cannot just wear your party dress because you still need to complete that day looking as professional as usual.

If this is the challenge you face, colors are your friends. Adding a dash of color and making small changes to your office look are some of the things you can do to transition from your formal office look to a party attire.

You don’t have to add much either. Switching from your big – and black – tote bag to the stylish Red Small Vicky bag from Saint Laurent is the kind of thing you can do to spice things up; you can pick one up from SSENSE as a Christmas present to yourself if you really want to indulge. Adding one or two other accessories in the same color will work too.

Find the perfect party dress too.

Use Layers

Another thing you can do when you need to transition from a normal workday to the office Christmas party is to use layers to your advantage. You are free to add or remove layers to alter the way you look that day.

Layers give you more flexibility than you realize. For example, you can change the way a simple white shirt looks by adding a blazer or switching to a colorful scarf. You can also look into items like the Balenciaga hoodie for a less formal look.

There are plenty of layers to use as well. Certain items like blazers, jackets, scarfs, hoodies, and vests work really well when combined with other fashion pieces. You just have to know how to achieve the look you want using the items available to you.

Stay Subtle

Don’t get me wrong. I think the office party is the perfect time to have a lot of fun with colleagues. You can still go wild with what you wear and the look you rock to the party. That said, subtlety goes a long way.

Wearing a Santa suit that lights up will definitely get you the attention you want. That same Santa suit could also be over the top when others choose more elegant looks. Either be extra certain about the nature of the party or stick with subtle looks to be safe.

You also want to limit the number of colors you add to the look. You are free to use more colors than you normally would use in your office looks but keep the number of colors to a maximum of three to maintain that subtlety.

Remix!

Adding and removing fashion pieces from your day, the office look is a practical approach, but it is certainly not the only one. If you want to really look special for the office party, you can also bring additional fashion pieces with you and change clothes at the end of the day.

You have more choices with this approach. You can wear a beautiful off-the-shoulder top paired with a simple pair of pants – yes, your work pants will do – and accessories. Don’t forget to pick up a pair of heels for the party, preferably with a pointed toe.

Aiming for a more glamorous look? Switch to a gorgeous sequin dress and go all the way with the accessories you add to the look. A pair of red heels and a Chloé bag will also work really well with this look.

Don’t Forget Comfort

There will be plenty of awkward moments throughout the office Christmas party; we all know how it is. The last thing you want is an attire that doesn’t make you feel comfortable. Comfort should still be high up in your list of things to consider when choosing your office Christmas party attire.

In fact, some office parties are designed to be very – VERY – casual. You can wear your favorite Off-White T-shirt and enjoy the best time at the party.

These tips will help you pick the right fashion pieces to wear to the office party. Remember to think about what you wear, how comfortable you are in those pieces, and the impression you give with the attire before dressing up for the party.
