5 Tips to manage your husband’s hair loss

Hair loss doesn’t necessarily occur at old age, however, a head full of hair usually signifies youth. That’s why it’s such a delicate subject for most men, especially those who experience it at an early age. Once your husband starts losing hair, it can really damage his confidence. As a supportive wife, you want to help your husband deal with hair loss in the best way possible. As such, it’s important you understand that there are several ways to manage hair loss in men; it all depends on the cause. Here’s how you can help:

Stress

Physical stress from a severe accident or illness can cause temporary hair loss. Hair has a specific life cycle, which can be shocked when one experiences a stressful event. This pushes more hair into the shedding phase. Emotional stress can also cause hair loss. Luckily, hair will eventually grow back as the body and mind recovers. All you have to do is support your husband through stressful times by being positive, engaging in some exercise, relaxing, and avoiding stress triggers.

Lack of Nutrition

Healthy eating habits keep the entire body healthy. Proteins are responsible for building body tissues, including hair. If the body doesn’t receive enough proteins in a while, it may control the existing proteins by stopping hair growth. A balanced diet filled with enough proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, fruits, and vegetables ensures the body doesn’t suffer from any deficiencies. Some of the best sources of proteins to include in his meals are egg-whites, seafood, fish, milk, lean beef, and beans.

Autoimmune Disorders

An overactive immune system causes the immune system to see hair as a foreign tissue. The immune system then attacks and damages hair follicles, leading to alopecia areata. The hair can grow back, but it’s possible for it to fall out again. The condition can also lead to total hair loss, called alopecia universalis. If the hair fall is mild, encourage your husband to try out new hairstyles that can camouflage the scar. There are also several treatment options to manage excessive hair loss, including steroid injections, drugs like Rogaine, as well as PRP hair treatment in NJ

Hormonal Problems

Imbalanced hormones can be a major cause of natural balding. For starters, when the glands produce too much or too little of the thyroid hormone, one may experience hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, respectively. Hair loss or bald spots are a major symptom of these conditions. In addition, one may experience hair loss when the body converts testosterone (primary male sex hormone) to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is known as the enemy of hair follicles. It shrinks hair follicles, making it impossible for the survival of healthy hair. A doctor should be able to help you husband’s hormones return to normal.

Losing Weight

Sudden weight loss can be categorized as a form of physical trauma, which we’ve established can result in hair loss. Your husband may have also used crash dieting to achieve dramatic weight loss. It’s possible that he wasn’t eating right, which could result in vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Thankfully, the body just needs a few months or so to correct itself. After which, you have to encourage him to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
