All opinions are mine and mine alone.
Even if you think that you are a good and sensible driver, there’s still a chance that you might be making repeated mistakes when out on the road. That’s because it can be ever so easy to fall into bad habits once you’ve passed your test, and these are habits that can often end up sticking. Unfortunately, they could be making your driving slightly worse than what you think it is.
Here are some really common errors that many drivers make and what you can do about them.
Using The Wrong Kind Of Fuel
Many drivers only find out the hard way once they have used the wrong kind of fuel in their vehicle. If you end up putting diesel in a petrol engine, or vice versa, then the engine won’t be able to run and you won’t be going anywhere. The only way to fix this is to call out a mechanic to take a look. But did you know that there are also different types of diesels and petrols and using the wrong one could also affect your car’s driveability? For instance, if you use a premium fuel in a car that isn’t built for it, it could cause the car to run less efficiently as it should. It’s always best to stick to the recommended fuel that will be mentioned in the car’s user handbook.
Ignoring The Car’s Tire Pressure
I’m sure that quite a few drivers have been guilty of driving a car when its tires’ pressure is a lot lower than what it should be. Ideally, you need to get your tires checked once a year to make sure that there is enough pressure in them. If you drive on them when they are ever so slightly deflated, you will find that it is a lot more difficult to brake on time, and you could find that the car is more inclined to skid when going around corners.
Ending Up On The Wrong Side Of The Law
There are lots of rules and regulations that you need to follow when driving a car, and sometimes it can be easy to end up on the wrong side of the law by mistake. For instance, some drivers think it’s ok to have a small beer before getting behind the wheel. This isn’t always the case, and you might end up being pulled over by the police. In the worst-case scenario, you could end up banned for a period and then struggling to find cheap car insurance for drink drivers once you do get back on the road. Parking fines and poor vehicle maintenance could also result in you facing a fine and points on your license.
Sitting In The Wrong Lane
The law has recently changed and it is now illegal to sit in the fast lane. If other cars are going faster than you, it’s important that you pull into the slower lane on a dual carriageway or motorway. Otherwise, you could end up causing an accident.
Hopefully, you never make these errors!
