Packing for One While Traveling as Two

If you’re off on a trip with your significant other, you don’t necessarily want to take twice the amount of luggage with you, especially if you’re going to be away for a while or are traveling to multiple locations. There are tons of great ways to travel as two while packing for one. Read on for hints and tips on lightening your load!

Bin the backpack for a shared pulley bag.

Unless you’re going on an actual backpacking trip, or trekking in the mountains, there’s no need to take a backpack. You or your partner can think of every excuse in the book as to why you can’t possibly share a suitcase – where will all the shoes go? But then, there’s always a way to make it work. Wheels mean getting around will be even easier, so pick up a pulley bag with room for two. It also means one of you will always have hands that are free to take photos!

If you’re sharing a backpack, make sure to pick a style you’re both happy to carry.

Go somewhere warm.

Now, most people who are thinking about vacation are thinking of somewhere sunny and warm, but probably not because it means they can take less luggage. Going somewhere hot means you’ll need fewer clothes, and that means traveling light. No bulky layers, hiking shoes, or winter jackets required! Just floaty tops, shorts, flip flops, and swimwear – all of which takes up minimal space in your luggage. Also, all that Vitamin D is great for the skin! But then, don’t forget to save space for sunscreen.

Take small towels.

Cell phones aren’t the only handy thing that’s gotten smaller with advances in technology – towels have, too! Save tons of space in your case by taking microfiber towels instead of huge, fluffy ones. They’re much thirstier than they look and will have you dry in no time. They also dry super fast, so they can go straight back into your baggage once you’re done.

Share toiletries.

It’s not likely that you and your partner will need to take two sets of toiletries on your trip. Most products can be shared. Keep scents neutral, so you both smell great, and decant larger containers into smaller ones to keep weight and bulk down.

You can share snacks, too. Try the mini Planters bulk variety pack.

Keep calm and carry on (baggage).

Sometimes, two bags are better than one. Instead of taking one larger bag, take two smaller carry-on bags. Carry-on is super convenient as you’ll never have to wait in long bag check lines, or try and figure out which bag is yours at baggage claim.

Keep electronic devices to a minimum.

This is a hard one for most people, especially if you’re planning to work while you travel. However, it’s not impossible. Leave one of your laptops at home and schedule the time for each of you to work. You can also pick up a single charger plug with dual ports so that you can charge both your phones with a single plug. Also, bring only one camera!
