8 Tips to Keep Your Car Running for Years

Keeping your car in great shape for as long as possible lets you get more money out of it in the long run. However, there may be basic maintenance tasks you’re not doing or you aren’t doing often enough for them to help your car run better. Check out these tips to help keep your car running for years to come.

Change the Oil Regularly

Regular oil changes help your car run better. If you go long enough without having the oil changed, it can kill the engine, which leads to costly repairs. Instead, check out express oil changes to make sure the oil changes are done even if you don’t have much time to spare.

Replace the Brakes

Squealing is a sign the brakes need to be repaired. The brake pads start to squeal when they wear down. If this is ignored, it could lead to damage that will be far more expensive to fix. If they aren’t fixed, eventually they might stop working completely, which could lead to an accident.

Replace Air Filters

The car’s air filter helps keep out pollutants. These pollutants can damage the air conditioning system in the vehicle, leading to thousands of dollars in repair. Instead, replace the air filters regularly so they can work properly to keep the air conditioning in good shape.

Rotate Your Tires

Tire rotation is something that can help to extend the life of the tires. When you drive, the tires get worn down. Rotating the tires helps keep the wear around the tires even so they can last as long as possible. While you’ll still need new tires eventually, rotating them can make the tires last longer before they need to be replaced.

Check Belts

Worn belts are eventually going to break, which causes a lot more damage inside the vehicle. Instead of waiting for this to happen and having an expensive repair bill, check the belts regularly. If there is any sign of wear on the belts, go ahead and have them replaced.

Watch How You Drive

Driving carefully can not only protect you on the road but can help keep your car in good shape longer. Fast stops can wear down the brakes faster, potholes can lead to damaged rims, and hitting curbs can lead to damage to the tires. When you drive carefully, you can avoid these and more issues.

Keep a Maintenance Log

When was the last time the oil was changed or the tires were rotated? One of the easiest ways to help keep the car running is just to keep a maintenance log. This helps make sure you know when everything was done last so you know when it needs to be done again.

Park in the Shade

When the sun’s out and it’s hot, the heat can cause damage to the different parts inside your vehicle. While it might not seem like much, just keeping the vehicle parked in the garage at home and in the shade when you’re shopping or at work can make a difference.

You spent a lot of money to purchase your vehicle, so it’s natural you’ll want it to last as long as possible without needing any major repairs. Use the tips here to keep your vehicle in great shape so you can get more use out of it in the future.
