What could more money do for you? Most of us have big dreams in life – studying, travelling the world, launching a business, buying a home, eventually starting a family – and all of these exciting plans require one thing – money. So saving towards financial goals is a necessary part of all but the most privileged lives. We live in a world of instant gratification, so it can feel harder than ever to make money, save money and live the life you want. But by monitoring your expenditure, cutting out bad money habits and finding the best deal on things that you buy, it is possible to achieve.
Get Into Meal Planning
It’s really simple, but planning out your weekly meals can stop you impulse buying when it comes to groceries and avoid costly food waste by making sure you just buy exactly what you need. There are lots of simple healthy recipes out there, so browse a few, and then make a plan of what you’ll need during the week. Start prepping food to take into work too, and invest in an insulated cup so you don’t need to splash out on expense and unhealthy pre-packaged foods and coffees. You could also switch to store-brand items on some of your shop – on basics like pasta you really won’t notice the difference, and the savings add up week on week.
Consider Pre-Loved Items
There is one way that you can generally save big on purchases – and that’s to look for the items you want, pre-loved. Depop and eBay are a great way to find clothes – simply set up a recurring search term for brands you like in the size you need. Facebook Marketplace can be a great place to find furniture and household items that someone is selling on. Need new wheels? Before you consider a costly new car loan, think about the fact that a new car will lose 25% of it’s value as soon as you drive it off the showroom forecourt. By shopping for the same model just a year or two older through a supplier like Hilton Car Supermarket, you can save big. Purchasing goods second hand is also much more environmentally friendly, as well as being kinder to your wallet.
DIY Your Beauty Treatments
All those manicures, pedicures, balayage sessions and eyebrow shapes can really add up – there is an immense cost if you like to look well groomed. So, teach yourself to perform your most regular beauty treatments at home in order to save time. Youtube beauty tutorials are a great place to start – they cover every topic under the sun – while Pinterest and beauty blogs are another great source of advice. You can purchase a gel nail kit with a UV lamp for very little money and sort your own mani-pedi while watching television in the evening. Or if you’re into pampering your skin, there are so many DIY face masks you can put together using ingredients you’re likely to already have in your kitchen cupboards – like coconut oil, avocado, crushed aspirin and banana. You’ll be looking your best without the salon bill in no time.
