All opinions are mine and mine alone.
With Instagram photos of far-off and exotic lands filling your feed, it’s hard for any mere mortal not to have their own bucket list or at least a few items they’d like to check off before they check out.
The easiest way to get your bucket list started is to write down a few ideas and aspirations you’ve always wanted to hit but don’t have the time, money and means to do so, at least right now. Some examples include:
- Places you want to visit
- Different ways to travel
- Activities you want to take part in
Of course, your bucket list can be as long or as short as you’d like. The main point of writing it all down is to get clear on what you want and start taking action sooner rather than later.
Still need a bit of inspiration?
Take a gander at the list below of some of the most sought after experiences to give you a jump start on brainstorming your ultimate bucket list.
Take in One of Mother Nature’s Marvels
Maybe it’s the Grand Canyon that’s been calling you. Or, perhaps setting your sights on a glacier in all its layered ice mass glory has been a dream of yours for some time. But the task of planning to see one of these wonders seems daunting.
Don’t stress out, though. Instead, think about hiring a guide to help you get the most out of your excursion. Plenty of people visit national treasures like these and are underprepared, so don’t be them. Because marvels like the Grand Canyon are so vast, visitors need to prep before their trip or hire someone who knows how to get you where you want to go.
Also, it doesn’t hurt to do some recon before you arrive and ensure things like your national park pass is purchased, campsite is reserved, and the hiking trail on which you’re about to trek matches your ability level.
Guide or no guide, viewing these wonders of the world is undeniably one of the greatest ways to bask in awe of our planet and the time we get to spend here calling it home.
Try a Different Method of Getting There
Planes, trains, and automobiles … or so the saying goes. Sure, those may be the more common means of travel, but getting to your destination is half the experience in and of itself.
Traveling by sea is on a lot of our bucket lists. So, if you’re looking for something a little bit wild and a lot accommodating, embarking on a cruise may be just the answer.
And hey, if you book a 2019 Alaska cruise and hit two checkboxes at once, well then all the better we say.
Delve Deeper onto History
Textbooks are one thing but words can only say so much. Whether it’s learning about the California Gold Rush or exploring Native American culture, gaining insight about the past in the flesh can help you understand and appreciate the present on a much deeper level.
Looking for some bucket list stops to indulge the history buff in you?
Some top contenders include the Berlin Wall, Machu Picchu, Hagia Sophia and then, of course, pretty much any ancient church or castle that still exists in Europe.
If you’re searching for something more stateside, then The Freedom Trail in Boston is a great way to walk through history as you stop to see Paul Revere’s home and countless monuments, museums and more along the 2.5-mile trek.
Who knows? Maybe you’ll even learn something about your ancestry or pick up a cool fact or two to keep the conversation flowing on your next date.
Get Up Close With The Wild
Maybe not too close. Still, fly fishing not far off from where grizzlies feed, seeing a whale breach straight from the ocean, or going on a safari to spot the elusive African leopard, has a way of reminding you of the power and splendor of Mother Nature.
Don’t Put Off Planning
Bucket lists can help bring realism to your life goals.
Think of your bucket list as an accountability list to yourself to not let another year go by without checking off one or more items and dedicate this year to truly living your best life.
