There are a lot of positive things about bridal showers. Case in point: They serve as a wonderful opportunity for friends and family of the blushing bride-to-be to gather and shower the guest of honor with gifts that she can use with her sweetie as they begin a new life together.
However, there is traditionally one side of bridal showers that most party planners dread: the games. If you’ve ever been given a roll of toilet paper and asked to fashion a wedding dress and veil on the person sitting next to you, then you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Here’s some great news: There are a number of bridal shower games that won’t inspire all the guests to hide in the bathroom at the same time. Instead of corny or cringe-worthy, these games are fun and may even have guests asking to play a second round.
So, without further ado, check out the following bridal shower games you’ll actually want to play:
1. Compare the Bride’s Baby Photos to a Celebrity
For this game, you’ll want to secure baby photos of the bride and groom, as well as their parents and members of the wedding party, along with baby photos of famous celebrities that bear a resemblance to everyone in the wedding. You will then pair up the photos and ask guests to guess which photo is the person they know and which one is the celeb.
Of course, pulling this off may be a bit tedious, as it will require the party planners to ask everyone to provide a baby photo as well as images of a variety of actors, singers, and athletes. But if you’ve always felt the bride looks eerily like Gwyneth Paltrow or that the groom resembles Peyton Manning, now’s your chance to prove it. Just make sure to award a prize to whoever gets the most correct guesses.
2. Put Together a Scavenger Hunt
Sitting in chairs at parties for hours can get a tad boring at times. To counteract this feeling, plan a wedding scavenger hunt that encourages everyone to get up and move around. You can even customize the scavenger hunt around the couple with clues that relate to them and their interests, thereby allowing each team to locate certain sentimental things and objects.
To get the game going, divide the group into several small teams and provide them with a list of items to find. If you’re expecting inclement weather or think the game should just be reserved for inside someone’s home, by all means, let everyone know where they can generally expect to locate the different scavenger list items.
For instance, when ordering your bridal shower invitations, add a note that instructs everyone to wear comfortable shoes instead of heels and to bring along a rain jacket, just in case.
3. Play Blushing Bride Jeopardy
To prepare for this game, print out plenty of copies of a photo of the lovely bride wearing no makeup. If she protests this idea, you can buy a few Styrofoam “heads” from a craft store. Then, purchase some inexpensive makeup. This won’t be used on anyone, so even cheap dollar store stuff is fine.
From there, give each player the makeup, including blusher, lipstick, eye shadow, and lipstick, as well as the photo of the bride or a Styrofoam head. Then, blindfold the player and give them one minute to give the picture of the bride a makeover. Once everyone who wants to take a turn does, the bride can decide on who gave “her” the best makeup job.
Have a Wonderful Time at the Shower
As you can see, bridal shower games don’t have to involve toilet paper or tedious Bingo games. If you think outside the (game) box, you can definitely find ways to keep the party moving and entertain the guests while not fueling them with disdain.
