So, Mother’s Day is rushing upon you again. And even though it is only one day a year, so many people let it slide on by. Sending a card and a bunch of flowers. Moms are pretty cool when it comes to getting gifts. Cards ordered from online card companies, flower arrivals, and the good old pasta necklaces are firm favourites. The thing is, you can do better than those things, and it doesn’t even have to cost a lot of money or take a lot of time.
Here are some great options to send, make, or give her something great.
Fashion
Some mums like to wear the trends, what is in fashion. Others prefer the classics cuts and style, and some would prefer to live in leggings and a baggy t-shirt. The cool thing is that you can create or buy something to aid their closest. Pick up a shirt or t-shirt that they will love. Take into consideration what they currently wear and put your own spin on it.
Scarves
For this one, you can learn to knit or crochet. Find a pattern online and teach yourself how to create a simple scarf. You can choose soft fluffy wool, in her favourite colours and in a few weeks (or months) it will be ready. The alternative is to find a photo that your mom loves of a landscape or cityscape and get it printed on a silk scarf.

Millions of people love tea, coffee or both. There are some weird and wonderful tea infusers. From little manatees that float around the cup to kittens that hand on the side. Like a good old filter coffee pot.
Laptop Cases
There are very few people who haven’t sadly dropped some of their technology. From phones hitting the ground and the screen smashing to tablets falling down the stairs. If your mum happens to have a laptop, then think about doing two things for her. Taking out insurance on it, and then getting a case that will last for as long as possible. Of course, you’ll need to choose a hard or a soft case, and the design but overall – practical gifts rule.
Homebaked
Even if you aren’t particularly great at baking – it is the thought that counts. Try making her favour deserts into cupcakes. Here are a few suggestions:
- Chocolate dipped pretzels – with sprinkles if you are feeling fancy
- Cake pops – try to make them in red velvet for a bit of luxury, dipped in white chocolate.
If you want to produce something extra special, then consider getting some gold leaf. The bonus to this is if it isn’t going as well as you’d hoped you can cover the mistakes with edible gold.
Plants
Grabbing a plant from a supermarket on the way over is cool, it is the thought that counts after all. But specially ordering a plant like a bonsai or a ginseng plant is extra brownie points. More established plants are pretty stunning and interesting to look at. Though they do take some time to learn to care for them properly – they are more than worth the effort.

If you have a makeup loving mom, it might just be time to create something amazing for her. You can now create custom eyeshadow palettes. You can do some quick research by going through her makeup at the moment, and seeing what colours and products she is using the most. You can then hit the internet to find custom palettes – or a high-end, one that meets your needs.

If your mother loves a little bit of fragrance around the house, then you should consider getting a set from Neom, Yankee or even Jo Malone (budget willing). The matching room spray is also something cool to grab. It can provide a burst of her favourite smell around the house nice and quickly.
In the end, it is better to spend a little time to get something wonderful than go with the same old. Your mom will really appreciate the effort.
