There is always the option of turning up your sound system to drown out the loud noises your car is making but that is not really going to fix the problem and it won’t go away just because you can’t hear it.  

There are a number of ways to do something about certain car noises, such as fitting quiet tires, for example, so here are some tips that might help improve your motoring experience.  

Enjoy a quieter ride  

It stands to reason that if your tires are helping to make your journey more comfortable and cutting out a fair amount of road noise it is going to make your trip more enjoyable. 

Fitting the right tires for your car can make a really big difference in how your vehicle handles and performs as well as helping to eliminate a certain amount of noise.  

Road noise can be extremely irritating and although you won’t be able to cut out the sound altogether with quieter tires you will notice a change to sound levels when you spend the right money on the right type of tires for your make and model.  

Fit some foam  

Obviously, some noises will need a mechanic to fix them, especially if the engine is not sounding too healthy, but there are a number of simple tricks you can use to cut down on noise in the cabin. 

 An inexpensive fix would be to buy some sound deadening foam that you can cut to size and fit under your floor mats.  

You should be pleasantly surprised how this simple tactic can improve sound levels, especially if you use the foam to do your trunk area too. 

 Fix the squeaks  

A bit of wear and tear to certain components can take its toll and you might be experiencing a few squeaks and noises that you might able to deal with fairly easily.  

A can of lubricant applied to a few parts that could be causing the noise might just help improve things.  

If you can identify where the unwanted sounds are coming from and it is a component that could do with a bit of lubricating, just like a hinge on a door in your home, it will be a cheap solution to an annoying problem.  

Try a sound deadening paint  

You might not be aware of this but there are some sound deadening products that you can paint or spray on to tame the noise. 

The undercarriage and wheel arches are good spots for these products and if you apply the spray into the wheel wells, for instance, it should help to noticeably deaden the level of noise.  

Small adjustments can all add up to lower noise levels  

You don’t have to spend big money to enjoy some improvements to your motoring comfort and enjoyment and one hack that costs almost nothing highlights this point.  

Your cup holder could be a culprit when it comes to cabin noise and their design tends to add a few decibels because they inadvertently act as a sound carrier.  

A little bit of insulation in your cup holder is one contribution to your sound-deadening efforts and every little help when it comes to cutting out the noise.
