How to Keep Your House Clean If You Have Indoor Pets

Keeping a clean house is hard in itself. How much more with pets? True enough, maintaining the immaculateness of your home can be quite a challenge especially if you need to pull out the vacuum cleaner every time Fido raids the couch.

Thankfully, there are proven and tested tricks and tips to help you keep your home clean and safe for both you and your pooch.

Keep Your Dog Clean and Well-Groomed

Brushing the fur of your dog on a regular basis should be law, especially if they have a long coat. Doing so will help minimize the shedding of hair, which is a very common problem among households with fur members.

Additionally, you should never skip on your dog’s bath time, especially if they are hyperactive and spend a lot of time exploring the outdoors. You don’t have to give your dog a bath every day as this can strip their skin of essential oils necessary for keeping it healthy.

In between bath times, use wipes to eliminate loose dirt, dust, or debris on your dog’s fur. Washing your dog’s feet from time to time can also prevent dirt from accumulating in between the paws and spreading it on the couch, bed, pillows, and household items.

Invest in a Quality Vacuum Cleaner

Vacuuming a house with pets is hard duty for a vacuum cleaner, so be sure you buy one that can withstand the constant use.

Your pet’s shedding fur is your vacuum cleaner’s enemy number one. This is why you should be meticulous in choosing one that features strong suction, great brush action, and of course, a reliable filter to get rid of all that hair and fiber. You should also pick a model that can access nooks and crannies.

Lastly, your power vacuum must emit minimum noise as the loud sound can easily stress your pets. Consider getting robot vacuum cleaners or Roombas. You can turn them on when you sleep or go to work so you can lessen the manual cleaning when you need to.

Keep Your Tools Handy

Understandably, your fur babies can get clumsy often. Whether they knock down a beverage onto the carpet or spread mud from the yard, cleaning stains is an inevitable part of being a dog parent.

Be prepared; you never know when you will need them. Spot removers and lint rollers should be a staple in your cleaning caddy.

There are a lot of household items that you can also use to fight off odor. Baking soda is excellent for neutralizing odor, and you can use vinegar when washing your dog’s toys or beds to remove unpleasant smells.

Train Your Pet

For a dog owner, your pet’s obedience training can prove very helpful in regulating matters at home. If you want to persuade your dog not to do something, one command is all it takes to discourage bad behavior.

This comes in handy when Fido gets the zoomies and knocks down on things or starts chewing on household items. Use toys or treats to reinforce simple actions and prevent unpleasant conduct.

 Reconsider Your Furniture

Opt for furniture made of durable materials that are easy to clean. Stain-resistant fabrics for upholstery are a good choice since stains can easily be wiped out.

The wrong materials can harbor bad odors and can be a real pain to clean. If such an investment is not possible for you in the immediate future, the best guard against the mischievous pooch is to cover up, especially the sofa. Have a spare sheet draped over your sofa as a safety net against hair and dirt. Don’t forget to wash them regularly.

Final Word

Don’t get worked up by the challenge of cleaning a home if you have a pet. Sure, it may require a little more compromise and careful attention to detail, but it shouldn’t be something worth stressing your heart out. Plan, pay attention and be proactive in doing what needs to be done.
