Visit Charleston’s historic district
See the old south come to life in Charleston’s historic district. Filled with over 1,400 historic homes, businesses, churches, and buildings, the historic district is a history buff’s dream. Take a carriage ride around the district or a walking tour to see the sights and learn more about the city’s incredible past. Don’t miss the Charleston City Market to watch the basket weavers, or the Old Exchange Building and Old Slave Mart Museum learn more about the city’s history and relation to the slave market.
See Myrtle Beach’s amazing boardwalk
Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular things to do when visiting South Carolina. This 60-mile stretch of beaches is a summer retreat for many a local and tourist. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade opened in 2010 and is 1.2 miles of tourist attractions, shops, live shows, and even an amusement park. There is something here for everyone, no matter your age or what type of visit you’re having.
Go back in time on a South Carolina plantation
The majesty of one of South Carolina’s 2000 plantations is something that can only be appreciated in person. These sprawling estates are a testament to some of the United States’ most beautiful architecture and are a true taste of southern hospitality. Usually framed by magnificent gardens, many of the plantations are open to the public–with some even serving as posh hotels. Magnolia Plantation & Gardens is one of our personal favorites and features one of the oldest publicly accessed gardens in the country.
Go camping at Huntington Beach State Park
Considered one of the best birding locations in South Carolina, Huntington Beach State Park on the South Carolina coast is a historic preserve with over 300 bird species. Their education and preservation efforts are funded in part by the on-site camping grounds. The sites have running water and electricity and allow you to get a bit closer to South Carolina’s impressive natural displays.
Climb mountains in Caesar’s Head State Park
See the majesty of the Blue Ridge Escarpment at Caesar’s Head State Park. This stunning park is filled with photo ops and incredible look offs that show the rugged beauty of the rolling Blue Ridge Escarpment.
