Busy College Student Trying to Ace an Interview? Try These 4 Things
Whether you are applying for a full-time job or an internship, it’s important to bring your A-game to the interview. But how can you do that when your schedule is already so busy with classes, exams, and research projects?
There are actually plenty of ways that you can stand out from the crowd. Use these 4 tips to nail your next interview, no matter who you are or how much experience you have.
- Ask Lots of Questions
No matter what industry you are interviewing for, the interview process is pretty much the same. It’s almost guaranteed that you will be given time near the end of the interview to ask any questions you want. After they’ve spent some time getting to know you and your resume, it’s your opportunity to get to know them.
Asking lots of questions can help you appear professional and intelligent. But don’t waste this opportunity by asking immature questions about how much you’ll get paid or how long the lunch breaks are. Instead, ask if the company has any expansion opportunities. Or, ask if there is anything expected of you before starting the job. See if there are any tools or programs you should familiarize yourself with while you wait to hear a response from the recruiter.
- Show Your Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm and positivity go quite a long way. You need to show your recruiter that you are both excited and grateful for the opportunity to interview with them. Focus on how you are composing yourself during the interview. Let your appreciation show on your face.
It’s a good idea to smile at everyone you meet. This includes everyone from the doorman, to the receptionist, to the recruiters themselves. Be courteous and considerate of everyone around you to show that you would be a pleasant person to work with. Visit https://samshiahwallstreet.com/ for more tips to ace your interviews.
Remember that the person who scheduled the interview with you is taking time out of their busy schedule to meet with you specifically. Be thankful for that!
- Do Lots of Research
It’s also important that you do plenty of research for the job you want. Start by researching the company. Check out their website, look at their social media profiles, and learn if there’s any relevant news about the company. Showing that you have quite a bit of knowledge about the company can really help you put your resume on the top of the stack.
If you want to go the extra mile, you should take down some notes before the interview. Come up with some relevant questions you want to ask, or write down something about the brand that really impressed you. This shows that you care about the organization in particular, and you aren’t just after a job title with any random company.
- Always Follow Up!
The interview may be over, but it’s not actually done. There is still more you can do to impress the recruiter and ace your interview with flying colors. After parting ways from the interviewer, make sure to get on your computer right away. Send a follow-up thank you via email to let your recruiter know that you really appreciated their time.
You should also use this as an opportunity to ask any questions you didn’t get the chance to ask during your interview. You can also let them know that you are looking forward to hearing from them soon. Don’t let your enthusiasm be something that only lasts in the interview room!
But be sure to keep the emails short. A long wall of text with lengthy paragraphs might scare the recruiter away. Nobody has time to read all of that. Keep it short and sweet, no more than five sentences. Just say a quick thank you to let them know that you’re still thinking of them.
