Being a parent means learning a lot of different lessons very quickly. Whether it’s the basics in terms of car safety tips or learning how to stop them from choking there are so many different aspects of that steep learning curve that will continue to be lessons to us. But when those bundles of joy come into this world we will naturally feel petrified. Not just because we don’t know what to do but this is the one thing that forces us to be a grown-up. And this may mean that we’ve finally got to start looking after our finances. But when it comes to looking after your baby, especially during those first six months, what are the essentials that you need to have in place so that you can look after them on a budget?
Getting Them Around
After you’ve sorted the nursery and the bed you may want to think about getting a pushchair or even a car. And the great thing about buying a car is that you can get so many for cheap from used car dealerships like Georgesons Cars but they are still safe. A lot of parents feel worried about buying a used car because they want the best for their children. But let’s get this out of the way, if you want to be on a budget you can buy plenty of amazing used items that does the job. Some parents feel that they need to give their children the best, i.e. brand new things, in life but in all honesty, as long as it’s clean and it does the job your child won’t notice any different!
Learning To Look After Yourselves During The First Six Months
In one respect those first six months will fly by because you won’t sleep much but in a financial sense, you won’t spend anything at all! But one of the best things that you can do to make sure that you don’t overspend is prepare food. One of the biggest expenses we can allow ourselves when we are sleep deprived is take-out. But in preparation for your child, make sure you do some batch cooking. You can very easily get a meal out of the freezer and reheat it. You will need things that are quick and easy, especially when your child has been screaming for hours on end. But in terms of your finances at the very outset, you have to remember that so many other people will want to buy the essentials for the child. You know exactly what you need to get for the baby in terms of their clothes so if people are unsure of what to buy the baby, point them in the direction of what you need. This is one of the perfect ways to save money.
Preparing For The Future
Because these first six months don’t require much expenditure in terms of the baby you may feel that you will continue to go down this path. But what happens when they get a little bit older is that they will demand new toys and you’ll end up having to pay for an extra plane ticket or have to get a bigger car (especially if a sibling comes along). It’s important at this juncture when they are young to start preparing for these things. And because your expenditure is so low during the first six months this is the best time to start setting up savings accounts and putting money aside.
