Whether collecting your personal post or organising deliveries for your business, more people than ever are using alternative physical addresses rather than using their personal address at home – here’s what you need to know.
What is a physical address?
Unlike a PO Box, a physical address is a real address, just like the address you use at home, which means that it can receive unrestricted mail and parcels from a much wider variety of carriers, including UPS, DHL, Amazon and FedEx. The only difference between your home or business address and using an alternative physical address is that you don’t actually live there, and someone else collects your mail for you, scanning it online for you to view from anywhere in the world and forwarding on parcels to an address of your choice.
Why do people use an alternative physical address rather than their own?
People choose to use an alternative physical address rather than their home address for a number of reasons. Here are 5 of the most common:
They run a home business
Many small businesses start out from home, helping to keep costs low until the business grows to a point where it can afford a physical office location. For small business owners operating from home, it doesn’t always look great to have a residential address attached to their business, and so instead they choose to use a physical address elsewhere, making them appear larger than they are and keeping their image more professional.
They travel a lot
If you travel a lot for work or pleasure, then mail can quickly pile up at your home address and you risk missing an important letter or package. By using an alternative physical location, you can rest assured that your mail is secure while you are away, and you can read and manage it online through your computer or smartphone. Students, military personnel, business travellers and adventurers all use other physical addresses to give them access to their mail while they are away.
They want privacy
Addresses are private things, so whether you are a business who wishes to keep your office location private or an individual who wishes to keep your home address private an alternative physical address can allow you to do just that without sacrificing access to your mail or the deliveries you can recieve.
They don’t want the restrictions of a PO Box
PO Boxes can be restrictive, and only accept mail from the USPS carrier service. Physical addresses, on the other hand, can receive mail or packages from a much wider number of carriers including UPS, DHL, Amazon and FedEx to name but a few. There are also no restrictions on the amount of mail that can be delivered.
They are manned and can sign for packages
Missing a package or a signed for letter just because you were unavailable at the time can be extremely frustrating. To solve this problem, most physical address providers are manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure that someone is always on hand to sign for your delivery.
