Creating Theme Nights For Your Home

All opinions are mine and mine alone

With the current COVID-19 pandemic, people across the world are finding themselves in quarantine at home. We are facing many challenges, including loneliness, anxiety and boredom. While we all appreciate how lucky we are to have our physical health, it is also essential to take care of your mental health.

One way we can do that is to create some special theme nights in our homes. This can be one evening a week that becomes part of a routine. Whether you live on your own or with a large family, you could ask your friends to get involved too and then share it on a video call.

Choose a theme and then work out the finer details. You could choose to theme your evening around a country or even an event that takes place. You might even want to do a Star Wars night. There is no end to the choices you have or where you could take it.

Food is fundamental and will keep you busy with planning and preparation. If you have chosen to have a french night, research the local cuisine and create a three-course meal you could imagine having in Paris! There are lots of recipe ideas on the internet, just make sure you can purchase all the ingredients without too much trouble!

Decorating your home is excellent if you have children. If you have chosen to have a Hawaiian theme evening then ask your kids to make a Lei, this is the flower garland that is given as a welcome to tourists or guests. They could make the Lei out of paper, or if you want to really get into the mood, you can order real Hawaiian flowers from a company like With Our Aloha

Clothing matters, there’s no point in having a Star Wars themed evening if you are going to sit down to dinner in your jeans! There are lots of online companies that can help deliver fancy dress costumes. If you are feeling really creative, get your sewing machine out and make something new! You could just invade your wardrobe and see what you have that could be used. If one of your household members isn’t keen, let them be subtle with their outfit. A beret would work for the french night, for example!

To get things really swinging, don’t forget the music. Music can lift the mood even if you are feeling really flat. Find something that fits your theme night and get everyone dancing. If you have chosen a country as your theme, you could research their traditional dances. If you don’t want to do the dishes, you might consider a Greek-themed evening

Whatever you choose to do, it is important to remember to have fun. In a time of crisis, we mustn’t lose our ability to come together and enjoy ourselves. It’s good for everyone in the household. Especially young children or older relatives. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
