We live in a time where buying online is slowing down – the pandemic has delayed so many things, and so when things break, we need to repair and upcycle instead of order new things. One thing in your home that can easily break down – even when you don’t want it to – is the washing machine in your home.
One minute you’re trying to wash all the clothes and get them hung and dried, and the next you’re hearing a clanking sound and heading to this website for appliance parts. It’s always at the most inconvenient time that your washer breaks down, especially when washers are such workhorses! So, when yours does give up the ghost, the one thing that you want to do is to look at how you can upcycle instead of get rid of it! Let’s take a look at five ways you can upcycle the washer instead.
- Use It As Furniture. Did you know that you could turn your broken washer into a piece of furniture for the home? Whether you choose to take it apart and use the drum as the base of a patterned stool, or you make a cool lamp from the drum, there are so many things that you can do for your washer. The actual shell of the washer can be used as a fire pit, too, and that can transform your garden!
- A Plant Pot. If you love to have plants in your garden, you should use your drum as a new planter. You can give it a paint job and add some soil, and you can have a new home for your plants to be in!
- Energy Machine. Did you know that you could change your machine into an energy-generator? There are some guides out there that can teach you how to change it around so that you have a battery bank feeding the washer and it can be used to convert energy.
- Use The Parts. The glass door of the washer can be used in the attic room to make a window in a porthole style, and you could use the motor to power other projects. This can also work as a way to start a new wind power project. The water pump from the back of the machine can be used for other projects, too. Washing machines can be stripped right back and their parts used for other things. You can even save the screws for a new project!
- Donated & Repaired. You can repair the machine as a whole and donate it elsewhere for use. Your washer can be upcycled and rescued into something else, and it doesn’t have to take much cash, either.
Your washing machine can be reused, rescued and changed if you can’t replace it. Always go for a replacement or repair first, and if you can’t, then it’s time to get creative! Now you know how to upcycle your old washer, what do you plan to do next?
