Stress is something we all deal with at one time or another. However, allowing yourself to remain stressed could cause big problems. Many people suffer with chronic stress, and even if they are ‘high functioning’ (still able to get things done), it can be extremely physically and mentally damaging. Stress can cause things like heart palpitations, irregular sleeping patterns, a change in appetite, hair loss, spots, ulcers, and more.
If you’re feeling stressed more often than not lately, then you should do something about it before it’s too late. Below, you’ll find some advice that could help you to lighten the load.
Confide In Somebody You Trust
You know what they say: ‘a problem shared is a problem halved.’ This is true to an extent. If you have somebody in your life who you feel able to confide in, tell them how you feel. They may be able to help you sort out some of your thoughts and feelings and come up with a solution.
However, it’s also important to remember that not everybody will be well equipped to deal with what you’re going through. In these cases, it might be better to speak to a therapist or counselor.
Take Some Time Off
Oftentimes, people become stressed because they have too much on their plate. If you’re working too hard or taking on too much each day, of course you’ll become stressed. A to-do list never gets shorter, only longer!
Allow yourself a few days off from everything. Relax and reassess how you’re spending your time. Here are some suggestions:
- Take yourself on a break away (just you) and figure things out.
- Ask for less work from your boss, or fewer responsibilities.
- Stop cramming your to-do list full of things. Even if you don’t get it all done, you’ll likely feel bad for not completing everything. Only put the absolute essentials for each day on a list.
Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is something many of us could use. Think of an activity like driving. Most people find it so easy to get angry when driving, to the point where they go from calm to outraged in a matter of seconds. These intense feelings of anger can then lead to problems, like an accident. You can get great car accident legal help, but you should still work on being mindful in the car. Try to be mindful in your everyday life. Notice a feeling when it comes up rather than reacting right away. It takes practice, but it’s so beneficial!
Get Into The Meditation Habit
Meditation can have all kinds of benefits, from better clarity to more creativity. Even taking a few deep breaths and focusing on nothing but each one can be a good practice to start with. Download an app and see if that helps to develop your practice.
Limit Habits That Make Stress Worse
Smoking and drinking may feel good in the short term, but they will make things much worse in the long term. Limit these habits and don’t use them as crutches.
Find A Form Of Exercise That You Like
Exercise releases happy hormones and makes us feel great for the rest of the day. See if you can do this in the morning and pay attention to how you feel for the rest of the day!
