4 Ways to Relax on a Holiday

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

So, you’re on holiday with family and friends, and you’re trying to relax. But relaxing can be hard. Between organizing activities, to rustling up a meal to making sure everyone is having a good time, it can be easy to fly through a holiday without taking enough time for yourself. And while what you may find relaxing may be something totally different to what someone might think of as a relaxing activity, hopefully, this list will give you some options to choose from.

You time

First thing’s first, if you haven’t prioritized some time for yourself on your holiday, then you’ll never find an opportunity to really relax. Try using a wall calendar to plan the days on, so everyone can see what’s going on each day, and you can then use this to plan your own time effectively. This will also save you time, as you won’t have to keep telling people what the plan is for the day!

Try a new hobby

If sitting and reading a book isn’t for you, try a new hobby. If you’ve chosen to vacation close to water (and honestly, isn’t that the dream?), then there are a huge amount of options available to you, from sailing to kitesurfing. If you’re looking for a calmer, quieter way to relax on your holiday, then consider taking up fishing. Whether you’re experienced or you’ve never caught a fish in your life, a holiday is a great time to learn and hone your skills. Plus, fishing is one of the best ways to relax if you want to be ‘active’ at the same time. Make sure to research your local area, get an instructor if you need one and pick up the right equipment, from rods to nets or the freshwater fishing kit from Tailored Tackle.

Get stuck in

It can be easy to spend your time on holiday making sure that everyone is enjoying all the activities that are on offer and not enjoying them yourself. Make sure to get out there and experience the best of what your holiday has on offer. Whether that’s hiking up some beautiful mountains, sailing across some beautiful water or choosing from a whole host of watersports opportunities like canoeing, kayaking or paddleboarding. If you’re worried you won’t have time, consider buying your own canoe, kayak or paddleboard, so that you can use it whenever you have a moment, without having to queue to rent one.

Enjoy the view

Whether you’ve chosen to camp in an area that you love or road-tripped to a lake or the coast, chances are you’ve chosen your holiday destination because you think it’s beautiful. So, take time out of your day – every day – to stop and admire the view. Try taking your coffee outside and watch the morning light, or stealing a couple of hours in the late afternoon sun. Practising mindfulness can help you feel present and grounded, allowing you to truly relax into your holiday.
