All opinions are mine and mine alone
Diets are all the rage because they appear like easy ways to lose weight and maintain wellbeing. However, after a while, you realize why you haven’t dieted in ages – it’s hard! There are tons of reasons why, but the main one is boredom. After a while, you get bored with the monotony of eating and drinking the same things and crave junk food. Once you break the chain, it’s a slippery slope down, and the fall is hard to arrest.
The trick is to start your diet by eliminating the boredom from day one. Here are four tips that will help you to hit your food targets.
Try New Cuisines
All cuisines aren’t created equal. While Italian and French recipes are familiar and easy to prepare, they’re also starchy and full of carbs. If you don’t exercise, you’ll have to deal with weight gain as well as the monotony as eating pasta every other day. Switching to Indian food kills two birds with one stone as a restaurant style mint paratha is delicious and not very calorific. Thai dishes, on the other hand, are packed with vegetables and incredibly filling. There are lots to choose from, so don’t get into a rut and cook the same recipes weekly.
And Snacks
The same rule applies to snacks, as healthy snacks aren’t as ubiquitous as unhealthy ones. Mostly, dieters stick to munching on carrot sticks or apples and bananas when they’re hungry, which is fine at the beginning and becomes problematic further down the line. The good news is that there are plenty of new fruits and vegetables you can try, so there’s no reason to stick to the tried and tested snacks. Whether you fall in love with lychees or dragon fruit, you’ll enjoy the sweet and exotic flavors that you can’t get from regular fruits and veggies.
Make Fakeaway Recipes
Just because you’re dieting doesn’t mean you can’t have your favorite takeout meals. The key is to tweak them so that they taste the same without including as many trans or saturated fats. Do you love a burger? Then forget about McDonald’s or Burger King and create your own beef patties with mince, flour, and salt and pepper. If you prefer shrimp, you can twin it with tomatoes and spinach to curate a pasta that the best Italian restaurants would be jealous of. Takeaway recipes can be slimming and delicious in equal measure if you get creative.
Don’t Be Too Strict
Being too rigid with your diet is a surefire way to set yourself up for failure. You might be successful initially, yet it gets harder to ignore the cravings the longer the diet continues. What’s the answer? It’s simple – indulge a little. There’s nothing wrong with having chocolate or a piece of pizza as long as it’s in moderation. If anything, cheating on your diet should motivate you to be good for the rest of the month.
You heard that right – losing weight is about eating junk food from time to time! Tell your friends!
