You’ve thrown the perfect party. Everyone had a blast, but the next day you begin to tidy up. You pop the balloons, take down the banners and fill bag after bag with paper plates, plastic cups, and left overs. It’s only then you realize how much waste one party can generate. Well, here are some top hacks to make your next party more friendly to the environment.
Label Up Your Bins
You might know what type of waste goes where, but don’t expect your guests to know that. Clear labels will ensure you aren’t digging the plastic out from the cardboard. If you are having many guests, consider putting out cardboard boxes as overflow for your bins. You could even have some fun with it by decorating them, painting scary faces, if it is Halloween, for example, or if it is a kids party, you could make it a competition giving a point for each bit of waste recycled.
Bring Your Own Plate
There are many companies creating biodegradable cutlery, so paper plates and plastic forks should soon become extinct. But why not go one step further. Ask each guest to bring their plate and glass from home. It can be a fun conversation starter seeing each person’s chosen tableware. It also could be an excellent opportunity to dish out those leftovers. You don’t need to spend weeks eating cake if you can give every person a slice to take home on their plate. If you share out your portions, it also means less food waste in the bin. A double win for the environment!
Paperless Parties
E-invites are the way to go. You can get some beautiful ones out there, and if you want to make it unique, you could hire a graphic designer to customize one, especially for your big event. Use the invite to inform your guests that you are considering the environment too. If it’s your birthday, they could spend the price of your card on a pack of seeds to plant in a garden or scatter in the wild. Ask them to be inventive. They don’t need to wrap their gift in wrapping paper. With a bit of thought and care, recyclable materials like aluminum foil, newspapers, and even an old pillowcase could be humorous and greener alternatives.
Eco-Friendly Party Supplies
From biodegradable balloons to eco-friendly glitter, it is all available. You can still have all the sparkle and pizzazz of your usual party. You just need to plan ahead. These items are not yet available in every party supply shop, so it’s best to order online and not leave things till the last minute.
Keep Learning
Remember, even with these top hacks. There is always room for improvement. The best way to consider your carbon footprint is by ensuring you are clued up on the latest environmental thinking.
