Valentine’s Gifts: Traditional Versus Trendy

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

There are several traditional Valentine’s gifts that are easy to buy if you’re stuck for ideas. Flowers, chocolates and jewelry can all make thoughtful gifts, and you can still put effort into choosing them. But with so many other options, including a broad range of more trendy and up-to-date gifts, should you stick with the traditional or update your ideas?

Traditional: Chocolates

Chocolates are a sweet Valentine’s Day gift, both literally and figuratively. Chocolate might be something that people buy for themselves all the time, but when it’s a special occasion, it calls for special chocolate. You have the chance to buy something a little more indulgent, a little more expensive, and that whoever you give them to gets to enjoy all on their own. Chocolate can be more than a last-minute gift.

Trendy: Even More Chocolate

What if you know a chocolate lover but you’re not sure about giving them a traditional chocolate box? One way to update this traditional Valentine’s gift is to go for a chocolate subscription. Why give someone chocolate just once, when you could supply them with chocolate for the next few months or even the next year? They’ll get new chocolate to try with each subscription box.

Traditional: Flowers

Flowers are the ultimate traditional Valentine’s gift, but they can be amazing or they can be disappointing. There’s a big difference between some last-minute gas station flowers and a special Valentine’s Day flower delivery that you’ve picked out just for the one you love. If you’re going with flowers, make it personal and be prepared to pay just a little bit more for a beautiful and thoughtful arrangement.

Trendy: Succulents

Cut flowers only last so long before they wilt and die. If you want a more long-lasting alternative, a potted plant is a great option. Succulents and cactuses are all the rage right now, and they can make good gifts. One of the reasons many of them are good to give people is that they don’t need a huge amount of care. So you’re not giving something that takes up a lot of time.

Traditional: Jewelry

Jewelry is often given as a Valentine’s gift, but can be difficult to buy. Not everyone is good at knowing someone else’s taste, and you could make a big mistake getting someone something they don’t like. But it’s a staple gift for a reason, and can be an excellent choice when you want to get something really special for someone you love.

Trendy: Personalized Accessories

For a way to update jewelry slightly, consider getting someone a personalized jewelry piece or accessory. Personalized gifts are so easy to buy these days, both from large businesses and from small crafters. Just find what you’re looking for online and ask for it to be customized with a name, image or anything else that makes it more personal to the person you want to give it to. Consider stackable rings for instance, they can be personalized with a word or name that has a special meaning for your loved one.

Traditional Valentine’s gifts are still great choices, but you also have the option to think outside the box a little if you want to do something different.
