Is Motocross The Next Sport For You?

Motocross is a really cool sport in various forms. You will ride on very special off-road motorcycles, which in particular have special suspension forks with long suspension travel and tires. These have a very coarse profile. Since the competitions take place on closed-off terrain and not on the street, the vehicles do not have to comply with the road traffic regulations. For example, they do not need lights, indicators or horns. The motocross riders have clear regulations regarding their clothing. You must wear extensive protective equipment. In addition to helmets, boots and gloves, knee, back and chest protectors are also mandatory. That is to protect against serious injuries. Spectacular races both indoors and outdoors

Motocross races have indoor and outdoor races. The “classic” type of motocross (MX) involves driving on open terrain in nature. The so-called “outdoor” routes are technically not as demanding as the supercross routes in cramped halls. Since there is simply more space outside, they are usually wider and longer so that the jumps do not follow one another in quick succession and thus higher speeds are achieved. Depending on the weather, it can of course be either extremely dusty or muddy and slippery.In short, visibility for drivers and spectators is usually very poor. Another form are Supercross (SX) races that take place in halls or stadiums. Since there is only limited space available in a hall, the very hilly routes are technically demanding and spectacular. There are many jumps, so that the driver hardly has time to “relax”. And since only a few drivers can drive at the same time, it goes in quick succession for the fans, meaning there are many runs to be admired in a row. It is an exciting part to be a part of. In Europe, the events usually take place in halls with up to 10,000 spectators. In the USA, on the other hand, the races are held in large football stadiums that can hold up to 75,000 spectators!

The last and even more spectacular form is freestyle motocross (FMX). At the FMX there are really cool riders at the start, jumping over jumps, so-called “kickers”, with slightly modified motocross machines. In the few seconds between take-off and landing, they perform extremely daring maneuvers in the air. It is not a question of who crosses the finish line first, but which jump or which row of jumps is best rated by the judges. It’s a great hobby to get involved with, therefore you should consider getting yourself involved. So is this the kind of thrill seeking sport that you have considered?
