Bullying is a problem that has been around for many years. It’s hard to believe, but bullying can actually happen in the workplace! As parents, it is our responsibility to teach our children about this issue and how they should react if faced with it. This article will give you some tips on what you can say to your kids when talking about bullying so that they know how to respond appropriately.
Teach Them What Behaviour Constitutes Bullying
Although there are many forms of bullying, your child must understand the different types right off the bat. Make sure you explain what constitutes verbal and physical abuse, so they know how to handle themselves in a given situation. If necessary, give examples of each type so that your kids understand exactly what these concepts mean.
Explain Bullying According To Their Age Level
You need to make sure you tell them about bullying according to their age level because this will determine how much information you provide them with when talking about this issue. For instance, if your child is young, don’t go into too much detail regarding social media or cyber-bullying; simply let them know that certain behaviors can hurt other people even though they are not face-to-face. On the other hand, if your child is older, you should provide them with more information on this topic because they are at an age when cyberbullying becomes more relevant in their life.
Teach Them About Different Responses To Bullying
It’s important that children know about the different responses to bullying so that they don’t get into a dangerous situation or hurt someone else while trying to defend themselves. Let them know which situations require a simple “leave me alone” response and what types of behaviors should be reported immediately before things escalate out of control!
Teach Your Children To Treat Others With Care And Respect
As a parent, you need to make sure that your child knows about the importance of treating others with care and respect. This will prevent bullying and teach them how they should act when in public or when dealing with other people on a daily basis.
Practice A List Of Responses With Your Child
You need to practice a list of responses with your child; this will make sure they are prepared if bullying does arise. When teaching them about different types of behavior and how to handle each situation, make sure they know the right response for every given scenario. If necessary, go through some examples so that your kids feel confident in their ability to respond when faced with these difficult situations!
Teach Your Children How To Report Bullies
It’s important that your child knows how to report bullies, so they feel comfortable with taking the appropriate actions if this issue arises. Let them know what steps should be taken (if any) and which authority figures are responsible for handling these types of situations. You could help your children find out who might be cyberbullying them by learning more about how to find information from things such as phone numbers. Family Orbit’s piece on how to find a name from a phone number is an excellent example of how to find the information of another person bullying your child.
Teach Them How To Be An Upstander
Lastly, you need to teach them about being an upstander; instead of telling other people off or simply standing by when witnessing bullying, make sure they know how they can take action in order to help someone else who is getting picked on! Teaching children about different forms of bullying at a young age will not only equip them with knowledge but also give us parents the peace of mind knowing our kids are safe from harm because we prepared them properly!
Remember To Praise Progress And Results
As a parent, you need to make sure that you reward your child’s progress and results; this will not only reinforce these types of behaviors but also help them celebrate their accomplishments. Remember, focus on the positive as much as possible because it is important for children to know about what they are doing right rather than simply fixating on mistakes!
It’s very important that we teach our children about what constitutes bullying because it is something that can affect them throughout life. Bullying has become more prevalent than ever due to social media, which means parents now have additional responsibilities when trying to keep their children safe.
