What to Consider Before Purchasing Your First E-Bike

Sustainability and environmental consciousness are two of the largest trends currently witnessed in modern society. We only have one Earth; therefore, we should do everything in our power to protect it.

In a bid to combat the negative effects of climate change, more and more individuals have turned to electronic forms of transport. Gone are the days of diesel and petrol. Say hello to hybrid vehicles, electric cars, and even e-bikes.

However, as with any substantial purchase, there are a few things that you should consider before you go out to buy your very first electronic bike. To make the decision-making process easier, here is a list of the top factors to think about before you settle on your new e-bike.

 Budget

Before you start exploring your options, it’s important that you set yourself a budget. You don’t want to fall in love with a specific e-bike only to find that it’s out of your financial reach. Thankfully there are plenty of models to suit any requirements you may have.

 Distance

Consider how and when you will be using your e-bike. Is it mainly for short trajectories? Or will you need it for longer distances? The range for most electric bikes will vary according to the size of the battery, speed, rider weight, and type of terrain.

Speed

In the United States, an electric bike can reach maximum speeds of 20 miles per hour. To put things into perspective, most cyclists tend to pedal around 10 to 12 miles per hour with limited training or experience. However, depending on the type of motor these bikes use some can reach higher speeds than 20 mph.

Safety

Safety is perhaps the most important feature to look out for when purchasing an electric bike. Although this form has become incredibly popular, there has been a notable increase in the number of e-bike accidents as well. Remember to drive safely and always wear a helmet.

Insurance

No matter what bike you end up choosing, you should consider purchasing a basic insurance package. This will help cover the costs for any unforeseen damages that can be expensive to repair out of your own pocket. Some suppliers offer their free insurance for the first 12 months, so make sure to do your research.

Comfort

At the end of the day, you’ll need a comfortable bike. There’s no point in spending all that money on an electronic vehicle if it’s unbearable to ride. To be sure of your purchase, ask your local dealership for a test run before buying

Whether you live in a busy city, expensive suburb, remote countryside area, an electric bike is the perfect solution to all your travel woes. An electronic bike can help cut down your commute to the office or speed up your visit to the supermarket. However, safety comes first, so make sure that you are careful on the roads and that you are equipped with the best equipment that money can buy.
