Why It Makes Sense To Drive An Automatic Car

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

If you’re going to buy a car, you will usually be faced with a couple of transmission options. You’ve got cars with a manual transmission, meaning you use a gearstick to move up and down through the gears. Or, you have an automatic transmission, which does all of this for you.

Needless to say, the second option is the better of the two. Some will argue against this, but here are three really key benefits that automatic cars have:

Reduce the risk of accidents

Driving an automatic car will mean there’s less chance of certain accidents happening. Now, you can still crash your car or someone can crash into you. But, the huge advantage of an automatic transmission is that you can’t stall your car and the car won’t roll back when you’re on a hill.

Talk to any car accident lawyers and they will tell you that a shockingly high number of incidents stem from a driver stalling or rolling backward into another car. You can stop your car from causing either of these two accidents, making it less prone to damage and improving the safety of yourself and others.

Reduce the chances of parts failures

Having a manual gearbox means you have more moving parts that you are in control of. You have to change gears using the clutch and stick, meaning there are more opportunities for things to go wrong. Many drivers have damaged their transmission through clunky gear changes or pushing down on the clutch too hard.

With automatic cars, this isn’t a problem. There’s no clutch for you to worry about and you can’t make dramatic gearshifts that damage the transmission. All in all, there’s less chance that your car will end up in a repair shop!

Electric cars are automatic

Soon, we will see more electric cars than petrol ones on the roads. In the US, the President has outlined plans for 50% of all new cars to be electric. The world is moving towards a greener future, which is why automatic cars make more sense than ever before. You see, all of the electric cars that will ever be made will have automatic transmissions. So, there’s really no need for anyone to know how to drive a manual car anymore.

If you’re planning on learning to drive, it doesn’t make sense to drive stick. Eventually, you will be driving cars that only have automatic transmissions anyway. As such, why bother going through the added stress of learning how to change gears when you can just peacefully drive an automatic car instead?

Overall, automatic cars are easier to drive and provide a better experience for the driver. As mentioned above, they can also be safer and less prone to mechanical issues. The good news is that most of the cars on sale in the US will have automatic transmissions. So, there’s even less of a reason to drive a manual car – it can be harder to get hold of them here!

Whether you’re learning to drive or in the market for a new car, stray away from the manual options.
