All opinions are mine and mine alone.
Have you got a beauty routine for both mornings and night? it’s likely! Indeed, it’s all the rage now to take a serious approach to the way your skin behaves. And while that can be great for you, it can also be incredibly exhausting, and even simply unnecessary.
Let’s face it: some beauty routines can take an age to get through. And when you’re 4 weeks deep in such a routine, you might just find yourself exhausted and feeling like giving up altogether!
Which is where quick and simple fixes need to come in, and much shorter routines that still have just as much impact. You can look after your skin properly without having to follow a 30 step routine that takes upwards of an hour; here’s how to cut back for the good of your energy levels.
Slim Down Your Product Use
This is the first thing to do. The more you can slim down the amount of products in your bathroom cabinet, the quicker you’re going to get through a morning or nighttime routine. That means you can be on your way or hitting the hay as soon as possible – what a relief!
The key here is to buy combo products. Solutions that can work two in one aren’t bad – you just need to pick the right ones that pack some impact. For example, a toner that has essential oils built into the recipe, or forget the exfoliator and just use retinol – using these products will cut out at least 4 steps from your overall routine.
Do Everything in the Shower
If you hate having to shower and then get out to do your beauty routine, why not combine them both? Sure, the steam from the water isn’t great for getting something to stick to your pores, but simply turning the temperature down could fix that. It could also make your morning or evening shower a lot cheaper!
Scrub and moisturize your face while you’re in there, use your cleanser and any serums, and then step out and finish getting ready. Do more than one thing at once and you’ll quickly get practised at it all too, which means finishing even faster!
Rely on Basic Looks
If you want to save time in the mornings, you can come up with a small and simple lookbook and use these when you’re pinching the minutes. A few hairstyles, a few outfits you can wear anywhere, and even just some basic makeup products that you feel really good wearing. Mix and match these whenever you need to and then go from there.
You can do this right now by simply heading to your wardrobe and putting items together. See how they look when paired, make sure you’ve covered both the business and the casual sides, and then pick one accessory to go with each. Then practice both your preferred updo and loose hair looks that’ll save the day when you’re tired and don’t have long to get ready!
Only Book Beauty Appointments When You Really Need Them
If you’re sick and tired of running back and forth to beauty appointments, maybe you need to cut down here too? If you’re getting annoyed with having to wax so often, or you’re not sure you can face another haircut so soon after the last one, why not cancel a few things on the calendar and rebook for later on?
And if the distance between you and the salon is getting too much, you just need to search for a new hair salon near me and then head there instead! The less you have to make moves to feel good in your own skin, the more you’re going to come to love your natural look. After all, your hair and skin is doing great with all the attention you’re giving it, and it might even appreciate a little break like this.
Makeup Doesn’t Have to be Heavy
If you like wearing makeup, remember that what you put on doesn’t have to cover up completely. A very light sheen of foundation and a bit of eyeliner, or even just some lipstick will go a long way! You don’t need to spend an hour doing your skincare routine, and then another hour putting your face on.
You’re going for impact here, rather than ‘perfection’, as that’ll save you a lot of time and money. And highlighting the features that people naturally look to, such as eyes and lips, will pay more for your look than anything else. So try to cut back; contouring your cheekbones or filling in your brows don’t have to be things you do every single day.
Remember, What You Notice isn’t Actually That Obvious
You get paranoid over the little things all the time – don’t worry, we all do! We all worry that overgrown and shedding cuticles or a tiny spot on the chin are going to be seen by everyone we meet. However, these are just small details that make up a big picture, and the big picture is what actually catches the eye.
So the next time you look in the mirror and find something to hone in, remember that it’s only because you live in your body. Of course you’re going to notice small changes that may seem unsightly!
But someone on the street won’t spare a thought for them, and your coworkers, friends, and family won’t notice. If you don’t have time or energy to go through the parts of your routine that deal with these areas, it’s not a big deal.
If your beauty routine is getting you down, feel free to change things! Truly, it doesn’t really matter if you skip a step here and there. As long as you feel good, and like you’re not tired out before the day even begins, it’s a good beauty routine overall. But if you’re still not sure, try out a new shorter routine for a little while and see how it goes for you.
