All opinions are mine and mine alone.
When it comes to the idea of safety with regard to your vehicle, it’s not just about driving safely, but about ensuring that safety is part and parcel of your entire car etiquette. There’s a lot that we can do to ensure that our vehicles are safe, whether parked up in the street, on our driveway or when we are out and about. Here are a few things that we should all bear in mind to ensure that we are looking after our cars, looking after ourselves, and making sure that our vehicles always go the distance.
Install an Audible Anti-Theft Device
If your car does not come with an alarm system or anti-theft device, this is the first port of call. Many companies sell car radio devices and accessories, but the same companies sell security devices too. There are a variety of car alarms available, but it’s worth bearing in mind that there could be issues installing them, in which case, you need a mechanic or a technician to do this for you.
Do Not Leave Valuables in the Car
One of the best ways to attract a thief is to leave a high-value item in a visible part of your vehicle. One of the biggest mistakes people make is leaving their satellite navigation devices in the glove box, and one of the tell-tale signs that there is one in the glove box is the suction cup rings left on the inside of the windscreen. The best thing you can do is ensure that your valuables are never within the vehicle.
Think About the Right Technology
In addition to an audible alarm system, there is a variety of tech that you can use to keep your vehicle secure, and these include:
- A dash cam. This is one of the best things you can do while you’re out and about on the road. A dash cam is a very widely available piece of tech and it is incredibly affordable. As this device captures your drive, it’s very handy for recording incidents.
- Vehicle tracking systems. Vehicle tracking systems are perfect so you can recover your vehicle if stolen. The tracking system uses wireless or GPS technology to emit a signal to the police. You could recover your vehicle faster if you end up the target of a thief.
Ensuring You Keep Your Car Visible
You need to lock your doors, not keep a spare key in the vehicle, as well as keep the windows closed, but you can also benefit from keeping it visible in the right ways. If you are parked out in public, a busy city street might be the best option. In addition, making sure that you keep your vehicle as invisible as possible when you are in residential areas can make a massive difference. Make sure it’s on the drive, and preferably within view.
There is a lot to consider in terms of keeping your car safe, these are some of the most essential things, but the basic things make a massive difference.
